Natural gas line connection to grill

I want to get a natural gas grill, and this is what my outside line looks like(picture attached). Do I need anything else other than the grill to connect it? Any advice on grills? Everyone is saying Weber, but someone said their newest grills don't live up to their old standards, and Broil King is good. Not sure what to do. Any advice is appreciated.

That looks like my hook up. I've got a Ducane Affinity and I've been very happy with it. It gets hotter faster than my weber used to and temps get higher overall. Mine has four burners and is a pretty solid grill at a lower price point than the weber genesis.

You'll want a shut off valve and a quick disconnect fitting. You can find flexible 10' hoses that have a quick-disconnect on one end to connect to the valve at the house and the other end connects to your grill.

Some grills come with them included. With other you have to buy it on your own.

There is a box called the "Gas Plug" that you could use. It will connect to that pipe on the side of your house. The Gas Plug has an ON/OFF valve, the valve has a cam action on it so the quick disconnect can only be disconnected if the valve is in the OFF position.

Whenever a mobile gas grill is connected to a permanent supply line, it's a good idea to anchor the grill so it can't move/disconnect (wind storm?) and cause a leak.

Other code restrictions may apply. I'm not terribly familiar with natural gas codes as I live in oil heat and propane grill country.

I have converted several by just drilling out the jets. I don't think the heat value of the gas is as important as the difference between gas pressure from the propane regulator and gas line pressure. Problem may be in finding a set of number drills and determining how big to drill it.

I don't know about the CharBroil, but I converted my Members Mark to NG a year ago by drilling the orifaces for the main burners to 5/64's and the back burner to 1/16th -- this may at least get you started in the correct direction. When you convert to NG you do not need a regulator. One less thing to go out. ;->

Cost of Extending Natural Gas Line to Deck

A few years ago I called the gas company about extending our natural gas service about 35 feet across the crawl space from the area where our fireplace, furnace and water heater are located to the kitchen. When they said over $2,000 I decided I didn't want a gas stove that much and forgot about the whole thing. But now I want to build a patio with a natural gas fire pit and grill, so I'm going to reinvestigate the gas line extension issue. I've gone to Home Depot and checked out gas pipes, materials and fittings. I could be wrong but this project shouldn't be any harder or more expensive than things I do all the time. I'm wondering if the gas industry people are pricing their work based on a fear that if we touch any gas related things we're going to blow ourselves up. This is crazy, and it has resulted in us placing a propane gas bomb right under our cooking surface, rather than obtaining our gas through a small line that supplies us with what we need in small measured amounts. If I can't find someone who will do what I want for a reasonable price I'm going to do this myself.

I used 3/4" CSST to extend a gas line under a deck and then to a quick disconnect. The grill then connects to the quick disconnect via a flex hose. Be sure you understand the electrical bonding requirement for CSST if you use it. The disconnect allows you to disconnect the grill to take it in for the season if you want. We positioned ours so that we can use the grill on the upper or lower deck. I had a plumber run a natural gas line out to my Weber grill. He then installed the natural gas adapter to the Weber grill. There is a shut off valve near where it comes out of the house. And one in the basement which I shut off if I'm not going to be using it for awhile, like over the winter. I can't tell you how much easier it is than schlepping those heavy gas tanks (not to mention running out while grilling something!) and how easy it is to turn it on and off. I simply turn the valve on, then turn the grill knobs to "on" and grill as long as I want. Then when it's time to turn it off, I turn off the knobs and then the valve. If I buy a new gas grill I'll buy one that is designed for natural gas use. Having the natural gas hookup has made grilling as easy as using my gas stove inside. So far as the igniter, my broke early on, but I didn't replace it. I just use one of those red pistol type candle lighters that fit in the lighting hole safely. Whoooshhhh!
