Used Lysol Bathroom Cleaner on Granite Countertop

I know this is stupid of me and I should have researched this beforehand, but I used Lysol 4-in-1 bathroom cleaner that has citric acid on my granite countertops in my bathroom.

As soon as I washed away the cleaner, wherever the cleaner was, it left a very dull looking spot on the granite. The granite no longer shines in those areas and the granite looks all mottled with dull spots. Those dull spots also feel rough and not smooth as is used to.

What can I do? Do I have to call a granite restoration expert? Or can I fix this myself by going to Home Depot and getting some kind of polisher or sealer?

I am at a loss and feel terribly stupid about this.

Oh...man, that's not good. Sounds like you've etched the surface of your granite. There are some companies out there that claim you can restore the finish with their products yourself but I have no idea if it's true or if that's something worth risking. I've always been under the impression that etched granite needs to be restored by a professional. Good luck.

You can see what I used with my calacatta gold honed tile and dark wood, furniture-style vanity: leathered antique brown, which is really more of a grayish brown color. I didn't want to use marble on the counter for maintenance reasons and because I couldn't find one that matched or coordinated well with the floor (even other calacatta's didn't look right). I also considered a gray limestone from Greece, but, again, the maintenance problems.

Hello, We used a slab of reclaimed old growth cedar as a unique countertop with a hand blown glass sink in one of our offices: We paid about $500 for this slab. In our master bath, we have two Wm. Garvey teak wood vessels. These are incredible sinks and look the same today as when we installed them 4 years ago. Just soap and water clean up and some teak oil about once a year. Thanks much for the granite advice! You have a good point. I was looking for a little bit of color and kind of liked the Marcraft cornsilk color (a soft cream, not quite yellow). That's what got me thinking in that direction. I had also thought about edging the walls with a small bit of Ameican Olean "arctic blend" glass tile- maybe. I'm thinking in several directions at once! I'm trying not to overwhelm with color, but all brown and tans is not quite it either. Just a few color accents to make it cheerful. We will have two vanities, separated by a 12" shelf unit.
