I need help with old china.. lots of pictures

These were my Grandmothers. Sister had them for many years but she is moving and we need to get rid of them. Can anyone help me with their worth, where to sell ect....These are only a few.....

I know the second set -- It's by Johnson Brothers, and there are about 6-8 different fruits made. I believe they're from about the 1940's and that the pattern name is 'California'. Typical asking prices on eBay tend to be around $10 apiece, actual selling prieces more like $5 each. I've never actually seen the cups with them, though that's probably because I've only searched for the plates. (I have a set from my grandmother also, and have occasionally looked to add to it.)

Your pictures are so poor it's almost impossible to tell you anything. the teapot and cups with the rose on them could be older moss rose or much newer and less desirable Made in Japan stuff.
No idea what the top group might be....in that grouping of tea cups the middle one looks like it might be made in Germany and quite nice...but maybe not.
Better pictures if you want more info.

"It's a house, not a museum. If you're only displaying stuff because it's pricey, antique, etc, then what's the point?" Ideefixe, I assume you are talking to me b/c I am the only one who didn't like the boxes. (Well, I like the boxes, just not in the china cabinet.) I don't think an object has to be pricey or antique to be displayed, but everytime I see those boxes, I picture a husband yelling "Honey, where did you put the stamps?" I think it is because the largest box has that silver rivet or snap on the side. They remind me of the canvas boxes that I just purchased at Target for my stationery supplies. They are pretty and functional, but their function doesn't seem suited to a formal dining room. Everything else in the OP's dining room is so polished and refined, the boxes feel like the odd man out. Just wanted to clarify so you wouldn't think that I'm a dollar-sign snob.

I found some really great "calligraphy" pens at Michaels. I can't remember the name or brand, but they have a pen tip at either end...for a smaller and larger calligraphy look. You have to practice some to learn how to hold the pen but I really love the look much much better than my plain hand-writing (which I HATE when I journal). They provide a more personal touch (look) to the page then printing calligraphy style on the computer (which is also a nice idea). Like Jill, I usually like to matt what I journal, depending on the page. If your cousin just graduated from Med school, could you somehow incorporate something from her "soon to be profession"? Perhaps you could make (scrape) a nice looking professional business card with her name, the date she graduated, her title etc.? I'm not too up on graduating med students so maybe she has to complete her residency, but maybe you could include smaller photos of where she will work or complete her residency on the page (in the background or superimpose photos of her on top of these smaller ones)? For something a bit more comical, maybe you could get a photo(s) of her with friends or family "using" her medical tools from her black bag with a humorous title page or a funny lyric or poem? I love to matt a lot of my photos and I also love to try (try being the key operative word here)and make up poems or rhyme when I journal. I think you could have a lot of fun and still have some very elegant and "fun" pages. Good luck! Send us a link for your completed pages so we can save the ideas...I'll need one in about 14-16 years!

Well i guess a picture would help, i will try to take some today. The nails are still holding it together but the heads are all rusty. Its held together pretty well actually. I just want something that can get me through a few years untill i can replace it maybe 2-5 years? I just purchased the house and i want to work on a lot of other things first, i thought if it can be sealed or anything it would be a good job for my fiance through the week. Thompsons water sealer? Liguid wood? What do i have to do to it to assure a few more years of life out of it? Thanks for the replys so far!!

Good36, it's obvious you went through some effort to display them as you did, and if someone has any of those sets, like Sweeby did, how you did it would ring bells and you could get lucky. However, it's probably not going to be so easy to just post them and expect someone reading would recognise each set you post and get it resolved immediately. It may take some time and some effort on your part for research after you identify the makers and hopefully the patterns and age.

What is really helpful is showing the marks on the underside. Most are unique and can trace you back to a company and a good place to start a search. Instead of putting a bunch of different items on in one thread, it would be more helpful to take one set at a time, and get clear, concise pictures with some of the undersides showing. When the maker is discovered, the hunt for pattern is only just begun. This might be a little more invovled than you'd hoped.

Sorry Linda C, I thought my pictures were good LOL. I know nothing about china so that's why I came to this forum. thanks Sweeby and calliope. I will try to take better pictures if I post again. I will try to find out more but not sure what sites to go to.
