GE, Electrolux, or LG??

Need to decide on stove. Would appreciate any advice, especially from those who may have one of the stoves we're considering. All are 30", gas, freestanding, continuous grates, black cooktop, sealed burners with removable surface burner head (easy cleaning), convection, self cleaning oven. GE has 2 ovens, Electrolux and LG have warming drawer. We are both retired, in our 60s, eat out often, seldom bake, no fancy cooking. Have also posted in kitchen forum. TIA.

Want a decent, reliable stove-doesn't have to have a lot of bells and whistles. We narrowed down our search to these models because really want the removable surface burner heads as easy clean feature. Other brands have now gone to screwing down these surface burner heads which we think will be a PITA to clean as do most of the salespeople we've talked to.

Black is not easy to keep clean. We have a black GE Profile gas cooktop and it shows all dirt. It also shows smears and streaks after cleaning. Good luck!

I am going to copy and post the links in separate emails for others to click on. I like the GE Profile since I know others who have it that love it. But I also like the Electrolux for the easy to pull out racks.

I am not sure how useful this will be. I replaced an electric smoothtop (I hate them!) in my house in Oregon with an Electrolux Wavetouch 5 burner dual fuel LP range. I only lived there full time for about a year with the range before relocating to Maine. Am not sure what the fascination with smooth tops, but I ended up with another one in the place I have purchased in Maine, its dual burner died after 4 months of use. I decided to replace it with the 30" all LP Berta range and am taking advantage of the hood promotion (BTW, they retail for $1,200). My place is heated with an LP based European type hydronic radiant heat units and a LP fireplace, so adding cooking should not tax my 300 gallon LP tank, LOL! I was looking for a range that is decidedly "manual" without an electronic interface due to the wind and subsequent power outages that are to common in this part of the state. I was also advised of service problems with the electronic interfaces on the Electroluxes, even though my range in Oregon has not had a service problem as of yet, knock on wood (am a reluctant landlord). Initially, I planned to purchase an Electrolux dual fuel floor model but could not pass up the hood promotion Bertazzoni is currently offering. I am only hoping when the range is installed, the oven temp will be adequately calibrated. I previously owned a Viking, but really did not want to spend the extra money for what I thought would be of marginal benefit. I also do not miss cleaning the Viking grates which were an exercise in weightlifting too! I visited friends of mine a few years ago in Europe and I believe they have a Berta (the knobs are pretty distinctive). I do about 70% rangetop and 30% oven cooking. My old Viking had gas convection and an infrared broiler and I really liked the oven and understand that the Berta is similar, though I believe the heat control is different (regulated by flame instead of on and off).

I see that nobody has responded on the reliability question. I'll give this a shot and hopefully that will bump this thread and maybe get you some responses from owners. Here's about all I can offer in response since do not have either of the ranges. First, there have been long threads here on the GE slide-in and free standing induction ranges, both the current PHS920 and PHB920 and the very similar predecessor models, PHS925 and PHB925 with very few problems reported. Best I can recall, some of the early GE slide-ins (the old PHS925) had a problem with the front right (largest) burner controls and GE fixed all of them under warranty. The current freestanding Elux has been on the market for not much more than a year, so there just is not much info on it yet. Frigidaire is an Electrolux sub-brand and Electrolux also makes the induction ranges for Kenmore, but, again, the current models have not been on the market for long enough to know much about long term durability/reliability. The latest Consumer Reports membership survey data does not yet collect data on induction separate from a maker's other electric ranges. The latest survey data shows that GE electric ranges in general (apparently including the Hotpoint, Profile, Cafe and Monogram brands) have about a 7% problem rate in the first five years of ownership. Up until now, it was more like 5%. The rates for Kenmore electric ranges were higher, but only some are made by Electrolux (others are made by Whirlpool and LG), so that figure is probably not helpful to you. Electrolux's Frigidiare's branded electric ranges reportedly had slighly higher rates than GE but CR says the particular difference was not statistically significant. Interestingly, Electrolux's own high-end branded electric ranges have more than double the problem rates at 16%. Curiously, the rate for Whirlpool's eponymous brand is 7%, but it's mid-range Maytag brand is significantly higher at 11% and its high-end Kitchenaid and Jenn Air brands of electric ranges are higher still at 15% and 17%. The reliability concern with most up-market electric ranges (radiant as well as induction) is the proliferation of microprocessor-driven circuit-board controllers. Experience with the controller boards in our cars tells us that these devices can be built to be very robust. Still, as with laptop computers, tablets and cell phones, we know some percentage (generally a small one) will fail early from manufacturing defects and/or "environmental stress" (say power supply problems and excess heat from oven self-cleaning.) The concerns with induction stoves is that they have multiple boards, that a failure of one can cascade to another, and each replacement board is very expensive. So far, most of the reports here about board failures have been about the previous generation of Electrolux induction products. The reports have been few so far, and that makes it hard to draw much more of a conclusion about overall longevity and reliability. This may or may not help you but hopefully it will get the conversation going on your question.

The LG WM4000 washer I purchased 2 weeks ago has released multiple toxic chemicals into my home since then. I am returning it. Based on other complaints I have seen online, foul-smelling chemicals in new LG washers have been reported at least as far back as 2018. The strongest substances (which hid the smell of other chemicals) were likely organic solvents and industrial cleaning agents. One or more of these emissions gave me a bad headache for 3 days, and also sickened my dog. Those chemicals were successfully removed by running the tub-clean cycle with ammonia about 20 times. But toxic chemicals still remained, and were released into the indoor air with every steam cycle (tub-clean, sanitize, or Allergiene). Subsequently, I followed LG's online advice for removing chemical smells from new front-load washers: running the tub-clean cycle with baking soda and vinegar. But after running another 15 or 20 cycles with those agents, the chemicals are still being emitted. The residual emissions are irritants, and they are also allergenic. My face turns red and my eyes hurt when I open the door of the machine. Running the machine causes the air in my house to fill with the washer's foul-smelling emissions and produces a rash on my face. The one load of clothing washed in the machine absorbed the foul odor. Skin contact with this clothing causes my skin to itch, rendering it unwearable. The chemicals that continue to be released are probably anti-mold agents embedded intentionally in the rubber seal. From the odor, I suspect that chlorine or a chlorinated compound is being released, although it could be bromine or a brominated compound. Toxic amounts are released into the indoor air of my home (likely off-gassing from the drain water) during every tub cycle. I have found similar complaints online about toxic, foul-smelling chemicals being released from new GE, Electrolux, and Samsung front-load washers. For that reason, I am wondering if the large manufacturers source their rubber seals (and perhaps other internal parts that are in contact with water) from a single supplier in China, where environmental regulations are slack or nonexistent. It is worth noting that the LG front-load washer I purchased about 11 years ago did not release toxic chemicals into the wash water or indoor air. The US Environmental Protection Agency should be investigating this travesty. What a pity that major US manufacturers have opted to expose their customers to toxic, allergenic chemicals rather than teaching them to leave the washer door ajar to prevent the growth of mold, and making that easy to accomplish. My old LG had a catch that allowed the door to be kept ajar without swinging open: a simple, non-toxic solution to a simple problem.

The lg model lrg30357st model is the cheapest but I can't find many reviews on it. I am using this one site since it had all three ranges on it with reviews on the first two. I will look around for a review for you. All three ranges are very pretty and all have nice features.

Reviews aside, you are comparing an american company (GE)that has been making ranges for years with a suped up Frigidaire (Electrolux) that has been on the market for a year and before that made vacuums. No comparison really.
Also, don't lean on the Electrolux, you might damage it, I did. Then you'll have to buy it. Now that would suck.

Also, LG makes good ELECTRONICS, just like other asian companies. When they try to make appliances, they take horrendous shortcuts, just ask the Department of Energy. What flies over there doesn't fly here, it crashes.
IMHO, they are falling on their own sword.

lynn2006-thanks for the links-they were great-especially enjoyed reading the reviews. Still haven't made a firm decision but have ruled out the LG. Leary about the Electrolux due to so many negative reviews so may come down to the GE or another we just looked at and liked-the Kenmore Elite Model 77532. Guess I'll have to find out who makes this Kenmore stove as never realized other companies made the products and Kenmore just stuck their labels on them. Don't have to make final decision for a while. Today DH demolished the left wall of my pantry to make room for space to house new ref.- 38"-we are switching places-stove and ref. Have also been following your progress on the kitchen forum. You have been doing an amazing job!!

Negative reviews Electrolux? Look at the post right here, then go back to the main appliance page, most the reviews you see for the Electrolux are positive. You will also see a post by a user that has the GE, and the oven will not self clean and one of the burners on the stove doesn't work properly. I can't "Personally Speak" about Electrolux gas products, but I can tell you that their Electric Convection oven, Their Speed Oven, Their Induction cooktop as well as their Wine Fridge have been great and trouble free for over 3 Years now.
Apparently one of our posters missed who owns who regarding Electrolux---so----I will repeat it. Electrolux owns Frididare and markets that label (usually at the lower end). All of our Electrolux appliances are built solidly, the easy gilde slide out racks on the oven had no problem holding a 19 lb turkey, even when fully extended.
Electrolux was (and still may be) the largest and one of the longest lived appliance manufacturers. The Remark that an Electrolux is a Suped up Fridigare really sucks!!!! Maybe that poster got too close to one of their vacuums and it "Sucked em Senseless"Â¿
"LG Makes good Electronics" I bought their DVD player/recorder, I also recommended to 3 other ppl to buy it as , at the time, it was one of the few that did "DIVX"
Well 3 out of 4 of those have broken now, one trashed, and Mine soon will be. Read the reviews on the LG Fridges, they dont even know how to turn off light bulbs in their fridges.
Anyway, think you are wise to rule out LG, but dont be too hasty about Electrolux---just cause a poster here can't discriminate between "Sucking and Cooking"

Gary-what I'm referring to with the Electrolux are the posts/reviews concerning flaking on the blue interior oven which apparently is also a problem with some other brands with the blue oven interiors. Do you know anything about that??

I saw 3 posts about the flaking problems with the Electrolux. The poster was kind enough to let us all know that it was covered under warranty and the new unit had no problem (to the date of her post) I have not seen post as to the other 2 instances of this problem(Hopefully they will let us know). Mine is an Icon Electric Convection oven and we have had no problems, but I think we have only run the self clean once (after hearing about all the Kitchen Aid Fuse & Circuit board problems after self cleaning)kinda scared me, but not
seen any post about such a problem with Electrolux.
Last time I checked, 3 wolfe Ovens had the "flaking problem" and never saw any posts as to how those were resolved. We saw the post about the same problem with Fagor (Only one user but 2 ovens--what a bummer)!!!!
I would suspect that Electrolux sells far more ovens than does Wolf or Fagor----1st price, 2nd more readily available (Sears) so one would suspect that the possibility of encountering the flaking problem is not that large---however if it is yours, then you know what they can do with their "Possibilities"
I would get the oven you feel most comfortable with.
We really enjoy how ours looks & cooks, the glide out shelves, the big window, the really cool to the touch door and the nifty control panel---but------ The last thing I would want to do is convince you to buy one, and then you end up with the dreaded flakes.
We just hope , whatever you buy gives you the joy and service, our has!

Touche on who owns who. I stand by all the rest. Companies that tend to make low end and high end appliances will take those cost cutting techniques and apply them to their high end line.

Can't Really agree with you there, aprince.
Using your "Logic" we could therefore deduce that a 750IL Beamer or whatever their new expensive and performace models are called, is noting more than a "Souped up Isetta"
Now , here here folks, this is Princes "Logic", not mine!!!
I have found nothing cheap about any of the 4 Electrolux products I bought, all have been trouble free, they used the latest technology at the time I bought them Ball bearing racks,Nice easy to use control panels etc etc.
Like many of the folks here , I shopped for appliances (researched and compaired), that's why I have a Jenn-air Fridge, not an SZ or Electrolux. I bought the Miele dishwasher because of the top silverware tray--not for it's name, Now that KA has the same rack, if the Miele ever takes a dump, unlikely, I would at the very least look at the KA. The Miele is no heavier built easier to use, nicer looking, than any of the the Electrolux appliances I have. I'm happy with all of them.
You may be a youngen, but I would be careful of some of that "Loose Logic" that you use.
Your last ACT ON EARTH could be calling somebody's "Porche" a Vdub!!!

I loved the Electrolux racks in the slide-in range in the store (unless it was a free standing range with no back) but the price was too much for me but if you don't mind a back on the range due to not being as petite as me, they are very nice ranges. I loved the sliding racks.

My 1ST ACT TODAY is to say I can't really agree with your Foolio logic either Dodge. Comparing a car to an appliance? Maybe you can take a ride in that cutlery tray on the Miele.
I usually reply and say very little, as above, although sometimes with an opinion. Just small tidbits of this "youngen's" VAST personal experience with appliances which people DO find helpful.
Now on to substance
I stated how I was able to bend an oven by leaning up against it. Electrolux mind you. This vexed me. I was familiar with how I could do that with the older Frigidaire ovens but not GE, or Whirlpool, or any other brand. Voila!. Simple logic dictates my opinion. Fortunately, you have not had that issue.

The original poster asked about GE, Electrolux, and LG. IF she knew the answer and didn't want a reply/opinion, SHE WOULDN"T HAVE POSTED. That's logic. Not loose or fuzzy or suped up. Just plain "How do you like them apples?" logic

Next time just chill with your "I am holier than thou!". Youngen.
