Choosing a clothes washer
Comments (6)I'd take a good luck at this thread... that was posted fairly recently and received a ton of comments. [https://www.houzz.com/discussions/washer-dryer-comparable-to-old-miele-dsvw-vd~5228894?n=27[(https://www.houzz.com/discussions/washer-dryer-comparable-to-old-miele-dsvw-vd~5228894?n=27) Honestly, it's hard to recommend an exact model number, because everyone has different needs. Some people need 24" Inch - Compact Models, Some People have colour requirements, Some people prefer certain features like steam, and so on. It's all pretty variable. The best advice I can give you - is to purchase by Brand, instead of Model. Know the brand you want going in, and then look at Lowes.com, ABT, or AJMadison and shop from there. Bosch, Miele, Electrolux, and certain Whirlpool models come to the front of my mind. And... LG, Samsung, and Asko on my avoid/steer clear list. The Bosch 500 & 800 Series, would be my first choice, honestly. Designed well, wash well, and built to last. The Electrolux Titatinum FL would come in a close 2nd. https://www.abt.com/product/92401/Bosch-24-500-Series-White-Front-Loading-Compact-Washer-WAT28401UC.html https://www.abt.com/product/98986/Electrolux-Titanium-Front-Load-Steam-Washer-EFLS617STT.html...See MoreNeed a washer and dryer this month (sales!), advice please!
Comments (39)Took delivery yesterday! Love them so far! Washed some towels last night as a test and they came out fresh and fluffy. Got two sets of sheets in there now on Allergiene to see how that goes. Have to get a new drip pan since the old one is cracked...that’s the only thing I’m a bit miffed about because I asked about buying a new one from the place and the guy insisted I should use the old one that’s already hooked up to the drain. Should have just got a new one anyway. oh! And sooo much quieter than the old washer! Very excited to be able to use it whenever I remember to wash things...See MoreDeciding between LG 3700 washer /dryer or Electrolux 627
Comments (10)Oddly enough, I just got done helping a friend with the exact same choice. She wound up picking the LG WM3700. Here's what we came up with in making the decision. First thing is to understand that Consumer Reports's survey and the Yale Appliance Blog reports are measuring different things. CR's survey covers five years of ownership but excludes any problems or product failings which were covered by service agreements (i.e., it excludes anything covered by manufacturer warranties and/or extended warranties.) YA reports first year service calls on the brands of appliances that YA sold (i.e., it only covers warranty calls within the first year of ownership.) Also, YA reports all service calls for the type of product by brand. Some of the calls for a particular brand and product , say, Electrolux washing machines, will be be for breakdowns and some will be for customer problems (maybe not understanding how to operate the thing) and user errors (maybe overdosing on detergent.) It bears noting that YA's business model is to service what it sells. The service part is done under contract with the manufacturers. (These days, pretty much all appliance manufacturers contract out their warranty service.) The reason YA quit carrying Electrolux and Firgidiare washers was a combination of two things. One was the high rate of calls they were getting on the Electrolux full-size washers that they sold in 2016, 2017, and 2018. he rates of calls was a high 20% in 2016 (25% for products from Electrolux's subsidiary, Frigidaire) up to nearly 40% for the Electrolux and Frigidaire washers that YA sold in 2018. The other factor was Electrolux's meager reimbursements to the service contractors. YA seems to have concluded that the combination of high rates of service calls and low reimbursement payments from the company made it unprofitable for YA to sell Electrolux washing machines. As a complete aside, it is interesting that Yale found that Electrolux's compact front load models, EIFLS20Q and EFLS210, generated the fewest service calls for any brand or type of washer. So where does that leave the OP, Terri, in deciding between LG's WM3700 and Electrolux's EFLS627? My friend concluded that you get better odds with the LG over the Electrolux, so she chose the LG. Some other considerations factored into my friend's choice. Both LG and Electrolux have poor local reputations for warranty service and support. Beyond the warranty period, the LG looks easier to work on and is suitable for DIY work. (If you have not already seen the videos by Eugene Pallas/Lorain Furniture, he has several on the WM3700 and the 3770/4370 models where he make this point.) Also, in our area, the LG is carried by numbers of sellers including Lowe's. Lowe's provides free delivery and installation even to our rather rural location, which somewhat lowers the price bar. Lowe's does not carry Electrolux washers any more, and everybody who does will charge between $70 and $150 to deliver and install an EFLS527. Finally, we have a local expert appliance repair service guy who does post-warranty work on just about everything. He told my friend he favors working on LGs over the current Electrolux models. YMMV in your area....See MoreWhirpool or Electrolux
Comments (5)Kim, I have the set but a different model # ELFLS60LTO I love, love my set. Mine is the IQ-Touch with steam. Seven years old and in my years of living, I have never loved an appliance as much as this washer & dryer (I'm 70). I have never skimped on cost regarding appliances over the years, but these two appliances are truly the best I've ever owned. I have never had a service call in 7 yrs, they work like the day I bought them. I do a lot of laundry, heavy washing. Rugs, down comforters, blankets, dog beds, etc. We live in Florida now and have a lot of guests (family, grand kids). I have never had the problems Kim describes. They work flawlessly. I recommend them to everyone. My daughter bought them last year and loves them. The steam feature is incredible. It is on the dryer as well and I use it all the time. Takes wrinkles out even if the clothes have been in the machine all day. It is fantastic to use for freshening the pillows and comforters....See Moreboba1
