time to upgrade my refridgerator, suggestions
Comments (22)thanks kas, they look a little high tech for my remodel but i sent the wife the site. i'll let her check it out. moose i like the samsung as well and i'm pretty sure thats what i'm gonna go with. i'll look into recessing it but honestly i just wanna get it done. being realistic i know it will eat away at me if i don't recess it. in order to recess it, you cut the area out behind the fridge as you would a door way(header etc.)? i guess you have to cut the sill plate too? any thoughts? i was also thinking of leaving a 1" space between the sheet rock and outside wall to at least put some insulation since it's a bareing wall with the garage.all this after i just finished taping before christmas. john...See MoreElectrolux Refridgerator disaster
Comments (13)Texaskitchen, I'm sorry. Did I call anybody an ass? And as far as complaining which I wasn't, my post indicated good customer service on the part of electrolux. It's there in black and white. I use the gardenweb occassionally to share experiences and concerns which will equivate to either fairness on behalf of the customer by the corporation or as complete unwarranted hassel. And then there's everything in between that the reader will have to determine for themself. I DO NOT! REPEAT,DO NOT! rate the company nor do I tell people how to spend their hard earned money on a particulare brand unless I can offer concrete evidence both in customer service and product performance. I will warn or share my experiences if and only if I feel it could help a person make a selection . And like I indicated, I have no stakes in the equity's market and to prove my point further you have indicated " it's examples like this that make me want to buy from E-lux"... and guess what? I didn't have to suggest that. You've determined that yourself. Case & Point. I have a concern with a global market for reasons that I won't list here for obvious reasons so I indicated that the global market concerns me and that's it. That being said, I would rather buy an American product, built for Americans and by Americans. I don't see the connection with an American product costing big $$$ just because it's American. If that were the case the slave labor of "under industrialized nations and its people should translate into a GE, Samsung, etc. appliance like a refridgerator costing what... a couple of hundred dollars instead of a few thousand $$$? And just for your editification nearly 50% of the American workforce have less than 17,000.00 dollars in their retirment plans and it's even worse for the few remaining. So, feel free in me calling you an ass... where ever that came from? And since I feel it is beneath me to even come off as inflammatory on this web I don't have to. You did a pretty good job of that yourself....See MoreRefridgerator Question
Comments (7)What are the overall dimensions of the refrigerator space (66"H x ??"W x ??"D)? The newer counter-depth and built-in refrigerators are close to 72" tall. Does your upper cabinet have any filler b/w it and the old refrigerator? If so, you should be able to cut it down. However, if there is no filler, you may have to choose b/w taking out the cabinet above the refrigerator and having a gap all around it. There is a third possibility...if you can find a decent finish carpenter s/he may be able to "downsize" your upper cabinet to allow a taller refrigerator...but that will entail not just cutting down the cabinet carcass, but also the doors. If you have a slab door it may not be difficult, but if you have any other kind you may have to order doors from your original cabinet company (or your carpenter may be able to make doors to match). Did you do your own refrigerator research? Check the various manufacturers' websites, they usually have the specs for their products on line. Just a few manufacturers to check: GE (regular, Profile, Monogram), LG, Samsung, Sears/Kenmore, Kenmore Elite, KitchenAid, Whirlpool, Amana, Maytag, Sub-Zero, Liebherr, Jenn-Air, Fisher & Paykel, Viking, Thermador, Bosch, Dacor, Frigidaire, Electrolux, Haier, and Hotpoint. Yes, it will probably be a lot of work, but you have very specific needs. Good luck!...See MoreBest refridgerator to buy
Comments (7)I think 'best' is highly debatable. Go to a nice appliance store and look at them, measure and take photos with the measuring tape in place. We found a store that had the huge SZ side by side we ended up buying with the doors packed full and drawers packed full so we'd get an idea of the weight and pull required, the sturdiness, and the capacity. Take a look at Miele's, they are very highly rated. I've used French doors, and some love them, but I freeze too much for that. It's similar to a chest style freezer, and yes, the digging is a 'freeze your hands' feature I did not like. I prefer shelves in a freezer. We are buying a side by side SZ. If you don't freeze a lot, you might prefer the French doors. I also like opening a single door for the fridge, and a single for the freezer. That's just me, thought : )...See Morecpovey
