These are the basic model Bluestar ranges etc. available if you live in the delivery areas of costco.ca. 36 is the best value. Not usually available or sold in their stores in Canada. Range is very heavy and should be equipped with a range hood. I just wanted to add my similar experience with my Bluestar. After about 5 months of ownership and several uses of the oven, I noticed the discolored door yesterday when my wife was baking cookies. I opened my pullout next to the stove to find the side of the door scorched. This appears to be slightly different from OP's issue. The scorching is next to the louvered toe kick. There's no door seal to blame here. There's a 3/8" air gap between the edge and the toe kick. One of the concerns I saw about the Bluestar when researching was that the door, knobs, and handle get very hot. I do not find that to be the case for me. I find these to be acceptably warm. It was the toe kick that I noticed was insanely hot. I was concerned that maybe an internal heat shield or insulation was missing. After posting to the kitchen forum, I was lead to this thread. I guess it sounds like this is a standard "feature" for the Bluestar. Yes, the stove is not a rocketship. That simplicity was a benefit for us. With that simplicity also comes a lack of engineering. That's not a total knock against Bluestar. It just seems like Bluestar employs more craftsmen/artists who put out a really nice looking product with some killer features than engineers/scientists who run tests and further improve the design. Pulling out the heavy stove to protrude from all cabinetry is a fix, but it's just a bandage. We followed all of the installation instructions to the tee. The stove exterior surfaces should not get that hot. We love the open burners and will have to learn to deal with the quirks of the range at this point.

I have a 36" RNB and BS vent hood and both I would categorize as perfectly fine and the customer service fine for the most part, but lacking in other areas. Honestly, I wonder if my stove and hood were from Bluestar's Land of Misfit Stoves. I REALLY, REALLY wanted to love the items, so it crushes me that they are not living up to my expectations, especially with all the money and time I put into them. The stove's burner bowls (the square part that surrounds the grate) arrived terribly discolored. They do not have an even finish on them, and it looks like one especially has great all over it. One burner would never start, and then when it did, it would create this huge "fireball." None of us would use that burner. They came it fix that. It still does it sometimes, but for the most part that has been remedied. Yay, Bluestar. What is sooooooo annoying, is that the burners click all the time when cooking. The sound you hear when your turn on the burner never goes away. A guy came ti fix it once, said everything was installed properly, jiggled things enough that it didn't do it for a day, but they both do it all the time. Every time I hear that noise, it makes me sad that I have the stove I do. The vent collects grease that drops onto my counter overnight all the time. It collects at the top right screw. I called BS and the CSR asked for a picture, which I texted to him. He said people were looking into it and he would get back to me, but that was three weeks ago. I also paid for a repairman to come out and show me what I was doing wrong, and he couldn't find anything. It is VERY level, and I clean everything. He said it was a design flaw and he took pictures to send the BS rep. Again, two weeks and nothing. The fallen grease is dangerously close to my floor. I also surreptitiously remove the grease that hangs on that screw, because my husband was against BS anything. We wanted me to go with a Wolf stove, so it kills me that I am having all these troubles. There are many things I do like about the stove, but they are masked by the troubles. I don't think they are a terrible company, and I am trying not to flame them here. I am not that type of person. Just when I was researching, I saw NOTHING but positives about BS ranges, so I thought I would put down my alternate experience.

Thanks to all who responded. I did end up purchasing something other than the BlueStar 30" gas range. I really loved the BlueStar and almost purchased it but in the end there were several factors that influenced my decision. The BlueStar range does not have a storage drawer. I have limited cabinet space in my kitchen and would have been hard pressed to find storage for my roasting pan had I purchased the BlueStar. For those with big kitchens and plenty of storage, this would not be a problem but it was an issue for me. I really wanted telescopic sliding racks, which in the BlueStar were an accessory (at $400 each). It would have added $800 to the cost. The burners on the BlueStar are powerful. I would have had to add make-up air (MUA) to my existing ventilation system which would probably be $500 or so (MUA kit, installation, permit). Most of the homes in my neighborhood have pretty basic kitchens and kitchen appliances. I didn't want to over-improve for the area I live in. I am an average cook/baker with average needs. Ultimately, I decided that I didn't need anything with such superior burner and oven capacity at the BlueStar. While I made the right decision for my circumstances at this time, I'm still dreaming about that beautiful BlueStar range and hopefully can reconsider for my next home.
