Solingen Carving Knife Set

Hey everyone, I'm new here but I was wondering if anyone could help me out with information on a carving knife set my Grandmother found at her house. The story is that my Grandfather brought them home from Germany after WWII, but since he has passed away we cannot ask him about them.

The set consists of three pieces, a carving knife, a fork, and a sharpener. The all have stag handles and the knife and the fork have a picture of a stag etched into them. The knife has the words Rostfrei and Stolingen written on it.

Since they are at my house and I am not I do not have a picture now, but I could probably get one if it is needed. Any information would be very helpful! Thank you!

Rostfrei is the maker and Solengen in the area in Germany where it was made.
German Stag Horn handled carving sets are pretty common...
Usually pretty good quality blades.
Somehow I think thes et may be newer than 1945....but am not sure.
I have linked to a similar set on ebay so you can get an idea of what they sell for.

Rostfrei means stainless.

Sorry I can't see where it says plum so I'm not sure if it's the manufacturer or not, when I clink on your link it won't let me in without a password. There would be different patterns. When I sell them it doesn't matter about the design on the handle. mfrog

Wayne does the carving/slicing of our meats. We have never owned an electric knife, always sliced by hand. My mom and sister have an electric one that is old as the hills. It still works well. They usually host the family gatherings and it looks pretty easy to use. Slices come off as thick or thin as they like. Cutting through leg joints is no problem. But I think in our home we will probably remain a manual carving family. That' just what Wayne prefers so far. NancyLouise

Oh, you're looking for the whole thing aren't you. Knives and everything. You should know that Cooks Illustrated recommends you assemble your own set as opposed to buying a pre-packaged one, otherwise you'll get knives you don't need, and you'll be missing a few essentials. They recommend the Victorinox 8" chef's knife (I've bought this one. It's great) carving knife and boning knife, and a Wusthof bread knife and pairing knife. "With a knife block (even ones in the drawer, I cannot see what kind of knife it is without pulling it out.. So there is a hunt and peck involved." We use a drawer knife block so I can address this concern. There is a minor amount of hunting and pecking. Our steak knives go in the top half, our chef knives (2) in the bottom half, our bread knife is always on the right, our paring knife always on the left. You do have to be careful putting the knives away, but no more so than putting than in a counter knife block or probably even on a magnetic rack to avoid the other blades.

Less it does denote stainless, literal translation means rust free.
