Need suggestions on new wall oven. Any advice?

Hi All,

I am researching a new 30" wall oven to replace my 15yr old Figidaire. The Frigidaire has been rock solid during that time and bakes remarkably well for the class of oven.

My criteria for a new oven are (in no order) temperature accuracy, good lighting, roller shelves and maybe a temperature probe. It has to be stainless too.

My budget is around $3K or below. I was considering the Elux Icon since it looks good, is the cheapest (always nice to save money) and seems to get good reviews. Anyone know the differences between the standard Elux and Icon aside from the handles?

Next on my list was the DCS. I figured since CI uses it, its probably good. Trouble for me is the capacity is low (3.5cu/ft) and its $1K more than the Elux.

Last option was the Thermador. Capacity is great, it looks good and is priced in between the other two. However according to my research its a repair prone brand. I don't want any issues and have to pay for service once the warranty runs out. I'm not sure those claimes are founded but it must be taken into consideration.

So, any suggestions on which way to go or can you suggest any other brands I should take a look at?

Well, if you like your Frigidaire oven, then you're in luck! Electrolux owns Frigidaire, so you should probably be able to expect similar mechanics/quality. Why take the chance on the DCS/Thermador?

For the life of me, I can't figure out the difference between the reg/Icon brands.

You can do a search here on the Elux because this has been discussed a lot lately, but from what I remember, the Icon has less interior space than the non-Icon. For the price and the features at that range, I am choosing the non-Icon for my new kitchen.

My wife and I are renovating a 700 sq. ft. house. We're thinking of a 24" rangetop and a 24" wall oven. In the Washington DC area the BS deealers are an apppliance store and one kitchen designer who doesn't stock anything. Nobody has an oven. We even tried to get a salesman to give us names of customers so we could ask to look at their's but he wouldn't do it. The factory in Reading PA has a showroom with a 30" oven but it's not connected. If you want to talk to them ask for Monique. She's honest and helpful. I'm looking forward to hot broiler to make black and blue steaks with. I've never seen a salamander but it looks so easy to change the rack position. Oven shelves don't give you such a good choice of heights. If I bought their high splash with a shelf it would perch there nicely without using up counter space and my hood may catch the smoke. It bothers me about wall ovens that you can't vent them when you broil. With an electric oven you have to do it with the door open and a lot of greasy smoke goes into the room. Somebody here told me that with these ovens you close the door to broil. I don't know if that improves the smoke or not. I can't comment on char broilers but all I can think of is my house filling up with smoke. I guess you can see what my obsession is. I'll be waiting to see if you get some info here.

I just moved into a new remodel in Dec. with a 30" GE Profile Induction cooktop and the GE Advantium 120 Oven stacked above the GE Convection oven. I couldn't be happier with my choices. I LOVE the induction for its: 1.)speed 2.)responsiveness (when I have a full boil going and turn it down to a simmer - it stops boiling immediately - my friends with gas are amazed) 3.)ease of cleaning (nothing burns on it, because the top is only as hot as from the heat that came from the pan) I LOVE my Advantium as it performs as a microwave, convection oven and a warming drawer. I've used all three often and just love it. The convection oven function bakes beautifully (muffins, cinnamon rolls, pizza, cookies, etc.) and is quicker to heat up and less heat in the kitchen. And the warming function is great,too. I've left a slice of pizza in there for my teen for 25 minutes, it was perfect! At Christmas I was able to do the turkey in the oven and the green bean casserole and sweet potatoes both in the Advantium on the stacking tray at the same time - worked great! So, all in all I'm very please with my selection and I think you will find pretty good reviews on these items as well. Good Luck!

yes have electric 3 yrs old & propane fueled 7 yrs old in different homes. no issues w doors (except to adapt to left closing). both perform well. electric more bells whistles being newer.. digital and pizza stone. however on advice on tech (we had 1 svc call for faulty thermostat ez repair but they pulled entire panel and replaced), pizza stone carefully removed, stored. this way oven heats and cools faster. note that neither throws excessive heat into space. trade off is a fan running to aid slow deliberate cool down. this might annoy in an open space eat in kitchen. our fan friendly oven is installed in walk in pantry utility room that houses freezer and extra refrig (main kitchen has 30" Leibherr)

What are the measurements of the Anthropolgy mirror you are returning? I think it was a good size and would be inclined to get either the first or second choice RH mirror depending on your preference. They will both look great with your chandelier. The third is not worth whatever the additional expense and I don’t think the lines of the fourth mirror are hefty enough. When you refer to the green room pic, do you want to look for a paint color that shade or are you just referring to the pic in general? Also, do you love the fabric on your chairs or are you just going with what is there? I had the seats in my dining room chairs reupholstered a few years back and it was not expensive. I bought the fabric myself and gave it to my upholsterer, which also saved. He came to my house, unscrewed the seats and took them with him so he didn’t have to load up the chairs. I think your fabric is absolutely fine, nothing wrong at all. It just seems like you are looking for a bit of bold in the space and that could be any easy place to get it. Remember if you are placing chairs on either side of the buffet, they are very visible and the seats can add a lot of look, or not to the room. No right or wrong.

I went with the non-Icon, but that is because I wanted White, so the Icon was never in the consideration.

I really like my oven (I have the double). Been using it for almost a year now with no problems.

I recently bought the non-icon double ovens for my new kitchen. The Icons had smaller interiors--only 13.5 inches deep, IIRC--seemed very shallow to me. My non icon is a full inch deeper. The Icons also came with 3 rolling racks (non icon, two) and the door is different. It's flat on the inside, where the non icons have a conventionally shaped interior door. I liked the look of the Icon, but the interior dimensions were a deal breaker.

BTW, I'm loving my ovens. They bake evenly, heat up quickly, and just generally do a beautiful job.

Aren't you gonna puts the Elux's on Craig's List or Ebay, CJ?
Or even sell them to Cruzmisl?

Maybe it's my imagination, but I seem to recall a post that "to the effect" stated you would still like to have the Miele Ovens----or has my imagination gotten the better of me (Assuming there is a "Better")
