Narrowest counter depth FD or SxS free standing frig?

I'm looking at counter depth frig. I like FD and DH likes DxS; both of us are flexible on this issue. The thing I'm most interested in (besides construction), is depth. I want as close to counter depth as I can have without being built in. I know the Liebherr CS2062 fits the bill... but it is also 5K. I havent' seen it in person yet. But would have to LOVE it to spend 2X what I can get another one for. Most frig's we look at DH can't stand the cheap interior. We've had bad experience with the side bins plastic breaking and not hanging on the door (condidment heavy family I guess!). Most I look at is the same issue. I'll assume that the Liebherr will be sturdy at that price. I'd be willing to forgo some of the more glamorous construction if the frig is less expensive. I just dont' want the same level of what we perceive as substandard construction on the Frigadaire or Whirlpool we have had. Does that make sense? Is there something inbetween?

I d not have any affiliation with AJMadison, but have used their web site frequently to find items that fit what I want for my kitchen. You can select width and depth of the item and it will do a search for you. There are some 33 inch wide and a new 30 inch wide fd fridge on the site. I do not know if they are counter depth though.... Good luck with your search.

I love my Liebherr. It is over 2years old now and I have a built in model not fully installed yet but I have been using it for two years. I can't tell you how much I love it. It is a 30" model and I fit a lot of items in it everyday. There is only one bin that is a plastic bin with it is clear acrylic and is very sturdy! The prices have gone up since I purchased mine but if you hunt around, you may luck out and find a floor model for sale. I got mine as a floor model from Expo when a customer ordered it and never picked it up. Mine also has an ice-maker which has performed flawlessly.

Sorry, I gave up monitoring this review a few months ago. We've now had it seven months and we still love it. Keeping the front of the fridge free of fingerprints is a pain, so we've kind of given up on it. I may try the Pledge suggestion. Someone mentioned the ice maker. When it drops new cubes it makes a fairly loud noise, but it hasn't woke us up yet. We haven't had any maintenance problems yet (crossed fingers). I get ice almost every day, so that may help things there. We had to raise the temperature setting for the freezer. Our low fat ice cream was rock hard and impossible to scoop at the default setting (-4 degrees I think). We have it set at +4 degrees and the ice cream is barely scoopable. We keep the ice cream in the sliding drawer at the top of the freezer. In our old SxS, we used to keep the ice cream in the door and it was fine. I guess there was a lot of heat leaking in. The Deli drawer is great; it would be a shame if they got rid of that. We have plenty of room for cheese and cold cuts as well as fresh meat (we use the moveable divider to separate them). The drawer comes way out so it is easy to access everything. The two side-by-side produce drawers are also working well. They are plenty tall enough to handle large heads of lettuce. We keep vegetables on the right and fruit on the left. You can get most stuff out of them by only opening one door. The gallon milk storage in the door is great for us with two growing kids who drink a lot of milk (along with me :) ). We're happy with the amount of freezer space. You can overfill the slide-out drawer which is where we keep all our bread, tortillas, rolls, etc. The shelf attached to the front door of the freezer is great for frozen OJ and ice packs the kids use in their lunches. We haven't run out of space in the fridge yet, so the ice maker in the upper left hand corner of the refrigerator compartment isn't hampering our use of that area. As you can probably tell, we are really happy with this fridge. It is such an improvement over the Kenmore side by side model we had.

I just bought and installed the KitchenAid counter depth french door fridge. Not the supersized one. I chose it for a couple of reasons bur primarily because it was one of the few I could get without a water dispenser in the front door (though there is a discreet one inside the fridge). I hated the fact that the counter depth added about a $1000 to the price tag and worried that I would not feel the aesthetic advantage justified that price difference once I got it since I was trying to be very frugal in my purchases. I was so wrong. I am crazy about this fridge. The bottom freezer holds everything my old full depth freezer did except I can see it all so easy in the lighted space with 3 slide out layers. I can see everything I have when I open the french doors. Nothing hard to get at. Nothing out of sight. The door shelves hold tons of stuff too. I like that the sides are gray....not black...so if some of the side had to show it would blend fairly well with the stainless. Mine will not show as there will be a full panel of cabinet wood covering both sides (cabinets arrive in 2 wks). I'm having an open shelf/cubby above it to hold cookbooks. Buy this unit with confidence.

This is such a good question. My goals are an uncluttered fridge and freezer (but not so empty that they are less efficient, not that that would ever be a problem in our house), shopping once a week or less, and eating out as little as possible (family of 5, $!). We have a 25 cu ft side by side and really wouldn't go smaller at this point. Watching friends who lost power for extended periods after TS Irene made me glad we did not have any extra fridges or freezers in the basement. They had to throw out so much. On the other hand, watching my neighbor, who has an extra freezer stocked with a variety of dinner staples, and can always pull something out and get a relatively healthy dinner on the table in 30 minutes, even if she's had a crazy week and hasn't been to the store in forever, makes me appreciate the value of an extra freezer. I live less than 5 miles from a BJs and a Costco, and 1 mile from my grocery. If I had to drive further, the energy cost of frequent shopping trips would quickly justify a chest freezer in the basement. So I guess it just depends on your situation. If you watch european tv shows you might notice that their friges are much smaller on average. I remember watching As Time Goes By (a british sitcom). Judi Densch has an adorably English kitchen, and the fridge is an undercounter model, barely bigger than a dorm fridge, for a house with 4 adults. (Drop jaw) But I think it's more common in Europe to shop daily for fresh ingredients. That sounded nice to me, but when I had three kids under 5, FORGET IT! I know I'm meandering, but I'm just trying to say, there are a variety of approaches, and what you decide to do depends on your eating and shopping style, location, family size, etc. And don't even get me started if you hunt deer or butcher a calf every 6 months. It is complicated. Perhaps you could rent or borrow a chest freezer before commiting to owning one outright. Here is a link that might be useful:

As someone else looking for a new frig, if you've had serious back problems (and back surgery), bending over to pull out a freezer drawer is definitely NOT easier than opening the freezer door of a SxS frig while standing up. I love the convenience of the refrigerator section being in the top of a FD frig...but those pull out drawers are the deal killer for me. Reaching down to get ice out of one would be excruciatingly painful. The perfect frig for someone like me who has back problems (are you listening manufacturers?) is a large frig section on top, small middle drawer containing the ice maker and ice cubes, and a bottom freezer drawer that I can open with my FOOT. (so I don't have to bend over and pull it open.) Happy Thanksgiving!

I'm doing a renovation in my kitchen. I found a Fisher Paykel counterdepth 17 cu ft. I recently saw it in person at an appliance store and I think it is made very nice. I believe it's 31" wide and you need 1 inch on each side for venting. It's a bottom freezer and comes in two different models a flat door and a curve door. It comes in stainless and also white. I am getting the curve door, the flat was too comercial looking for me. It also has a two year warranty, as opposed to most that have a one year warranty. No ice maker though. The price I was quoted was $1399. I think the list is $1599.

The narrowest FD is an LG at 30". I have seen it and it is cute.

It's not CD.

The narrowest CD are fridges made to be Side by Side with another refrigeration product, and so they can all be used as stand alone too. They have bottom freezers. See the thread in this forum on Small Refrigerators, mentioning full height Fagor, Conserv, Summit, Vestfrost, LG, Liebherr, Miele, SubZero, Blomberg and Danby fridges. These are all 24" deep including the door. Counter deep.

The narrowest ones are 21" wide.
