30' Fridge: SZ vs. Liebherr - and which ice-maker?
Comments (2)I haven't had experience with Leibherr but I can tell you from experience that Sub-Zero service has been nothing but incredible. US based 24/7 customer service with one day responses on service appointments (in my area at least). I would assume the fixed water connection is a considerably better option. That is what I have, and if I had to fill a tank I wouldn't have nearly enough ice. I think both SZ and Leibherr come with filters for the water if that is an issue for you. Hopefully you can get some more responses, but my money is sticking with SZ for fridges in the future. I love mine....See MoreLiebherr HC2062 Doors and Ice Maker
Comments (24)We have the standalone (counter-depth) Liebherr CS2062, 36" French Door / Double Bottom Drawer Freezer unit. It was delivered and installed in May 2010. Overall we are very satisfied. Yes, we had a bit of a learning curve to follow in switching from our ancient Amana 'American-style' fridge to the Liebherr's Euro configuration: different storage containers (rectangles work best), and some adjustments to how we think about what-goes-where were in order. We are both ~5'4" tall (or short, if you will), but have had little trouble storing and reaching items on the top shelf. We removed one door shelf to create space for tall bottles and have not missed it. As other posters have pointed out, the excellent lighting and clean layout make it easy to see all the contents. Liebherr ain't kidding when they tout the strength of their glass shelves -- we stored a 25lb Thanksgiving turkey in a roasting pan on that top shelf along with the usual load of condiments, beer bottles and the like. There is no gasket mod available to make the CS2062 refrigerator doors self-closing, but we have simply gotten better at closing the doors (or hearing the alarm) -- and we have never seen the temperature deviate from settings, even when the alarm's been on for many minutes. The freezer drawers DO self close, once pushed to within the last several inches of travel. In late November 2010 (i.e., after six months of use) the IceMaker failed as follows: it stopped releasing the frozen cubes into the drawer, instead allowing water to (over?)flow into the drawer and form a single block of ice at the bottom. The IceMaker alarm light blinked, indicating the fault, and we then shut off the IceMaker. We contacted our dealer (Eurostoves), who immediately put Liebherr customer service in touch with us. They have promised a replacement part and installation to be scheduled in 4-5 business days. I will post a followup to detail the repair and results. A note to potential Liebherr buyers that I haven't seen elsewhere, regarding the ongoing cost of ownership: The IceMaker's water filter cartridge, available (not unexpectedly) only from Liebherr, is priced at $65, plus shipping, and must be replaced 2-3 times per year, depending (of course) on the amount of solids in your water and the amount of ice you consume....See Moreanyone have a removeable ice bin for Liebherr ice maker?
Comments (0)Hi all, I just got a new liebherr HCB2062 french door fridge with two bottom freezer drawers. We just installed it. I noticed that it does not have a removeable ice bin. The ice would just drop in one section of the top freezer drawer. It seems a little wasteful to dedicate so much space of the drawer just for ice, so i wanted to see if I could put a tray in and store things under the tray? has anyone done this sort of setup before? I would love your advice on where I might find a removeable bin that would fit? thank you for your advice!...See MoreNew Liebherr HCB 2061 ice maker question
Comments (2)Some ice makers, the dumped ice tends to accumulate in the bin in the area of the sensor arm that shuts it off when full. Shake the bin to level the ice ... or make visual note of where the arm falls in the bin and push the ice away from it. I have to do that with my GE to get maximum use of the bin's capacity....See Moredadoes
