Need help with artist's signature, please

This neat vase was a gift years ago, and I'm trying to find out the artist's name. It was signed (I'm guessing with an electric pen of some sort) and dated. I have rubbed a lead pencil over the signature to have it show up. No matter what combination I have tried, I can't find any artists with a similar name. Sometimes another set of eyes may interpret the letters differently. Here's hoping someone may come up with another name for me to search....

It's beautiful!
It was popular several years ago, for owners to etch their name and an identifying number. Perhaps that is what you are seeing?
But again it looks like a "studio work" to me and likely the artist is not well known and unlikely to be located.
Can you find a number or web page for Canada Handcrafted glasworks and see if they can help?

I'd agree with Linda's suggestion to go through Canada Handcrafted Galssworks to see who the artist is. They may have a listing of 'artists in residence' or some such that could get you started...

Boy, I feel bad. I have seen your request for almost 2 weeks with no response. I wish I could help you, but I don't know anything about Southern Magazine or how to make your yard look like anything in it. Unfortunately I think your request may have been too specific and nobody really knows what it is you are shooting for. Any chance you could rephrase your request in less specific terms so more folks could understand the look you are trying to achieve?

Hi Mike, welcome aboard. I do not have anything to prove, was thru with taking tests a long time ago, but will throw my thoughts out there. I am not expert at any technical stuff, but there some that drop by this board that do have a lot of technical knowledge. There fore the following is just my observations and what I think. First, joining two different size objects that way will never look exactly like the one in your picture. If you make the transition gradually and smoothly enough it would probably appear just about the same to the less discering eye, or perhaps have the illusion of just a very slight taper depending on the length of the two pieces. You did not say how strong it has to be, but since you are talking about paste or putty, the asusumption would be that strength is not a critical factor. The joining of two different metals can sometimes be a bit of a problem, if they were both copper, soldering would not be hard to do, then you could file or grind and buff the seam to a smooth transition, perhaps. I do not know what would work best for copper/aluminum. Other thoughts would be that when you have it joined in a manner that meets your satisfaction with regards to stability and strength, you could grind down the larger piece, feathering it gradually to about the size of the smaller piece, then paint Other possibilities that you may or may not have thought of or tried, superglue it in place, then try some auto bondo or other products that they use to repair dents small tears etc in their shops. Technology keeps advancing and some are pretty darned durable nowdays. This board is fairly new, sometimes a little slow, but someone else will probably be along before long with other thoughts and ideas. If we do not prove ourselves to your satisfaction, bye bye. Rubyclaire, Here is the recipe for the sparkling rose punch. I make an ice ring with a Tupperware plastic mold and put frozen orange slices, frozen lime slices and cherries for color. 1 bottle (fifth) of rose 1 cup lemon juice 1 cup Triple Sec or Curacao 1 bottle sparkling water (23 or 28 oz) 2 bottles champagne Frozen orange wedges or frozen ice ring with fruit Pour rose, lemon juice and orange liqueur over a block (or ring) of ice. As guests arrive, add sparkling water and champagne. Add frozen orange wedges as garnish and to keep punch chilled. Hints: I have had good luck using extra dry champagne (Le Domain extra dry). Freixenet semi-seco works well too. Chill all ingredients well ahead of time so your ice ring doesn’t melt. I hope you enjoy it. I have a really old punch bowl and cups that hang on the side which I use when I make this. But any cups will do! Happy planning and counting down the days......

justlinda, I will keep trying to look at it, but I wanted to thank you for the idea of rubbing pencil over an indistinct signature. I've tried doing rubbings on paper, but they never help. This is a great new tool.

You're actually lucky you have so much to work with--often people, even masters, will sign only with their initials, which is just SO frustrating. It seems deliberately obfuscatory.

I would try the Canadian Glass Art Association, perhaps request an up-to-date copy of their directory, rather than going through the company that sold the work.

The word "Fenbles" is a proper family name, rather rare, but it is one genuine possibility. Unfortunately, I know of no artist who bears the name, but it is a place to start. If you have any photos showing different angles of the signature that you can send me, reading illegibly signed art is what I do for a living, and so I am only too willing to help.

Took me a while, but here's a few more photos. For one of the pics I removed the lead pencil marks. Not sure, though, if they are any clearer from different angles. Wish I were a professional photographer and able to get better photos (sigh).
