Name This Animal

White deer

This little guy/girl has been hanging out around our crispy dried up yard for the past couple of months. I finally got a pic, although I couldn't get very close and my digital camera does not have a professional quality zoom. He's quite stunning when glimpsed in the forest.

Yup... the tree rats hit me too :-( If you happen to see any hot pink tree rats running around... that would be me... I hit a few dozen with pink paintballs :-) seems to keep them off the property... cause I only see grey... non have returned with pink, so they either take a bath (doubtful..lol) or they stay away and let their buddys take a try! Tippman custom .98 with scope... hehee maybe I should freeze a few balls... naaa... too cruel CJ

"Thanks, Dilly, for posting the right URL. I went back and copied from the email and it is the same except for the number 80. Odd, huh? " No, not really odd. This happens often with news links. For instance usually a big story of 'breaking news' will be on the "front page" of a news site the day it comes out. Subsequently the "front page" has a new story the next day. If you sent a link out to friends to that page a different news story will be there and anyone you sent a link to will be very confused about your message. The original article will be archived with a different address to access it and this new address is permanent. A little plunking around with the HTTP can find it. The other thing that can happen with smaller websites is when someone starts a mass emailing campaign linking to their website. This can cause a server crash. Some owners pull their sites temporarily when this happens. Their website can't take all the traffic. Then there is the issue of bandwidth too. Website owners hate sudden mass traffic. There are 'work arounds' for this too.

Beautiful pic. But of course I would say that as my favorite subject matter is the deer! That second deer had me fooled for a minute, at first I just saw one! Looks like they spotted you and trying to figure it out. Looks like they have a regular path they follow. The snow is beautiful but I think I'm glad we are having weather in the 70's already and even reached the 80's a couple of days. Every hair on that deer shows up so sharp......love it!

This is so pretty. I think that deer in the wild are so beautiful. I have started seeing deer in our back field, close to a fence row and grove of trees. This morning I saw a female deer watching me while I walked my dogs. See probably has a fawn nearby. I was thrilled to see her. I would love to get a decent camera to take closeups. Do you have any advice as to what is easiest to use for a beginner!Thank you for sharing this lovely picture.

That is crazy! But I wouldn't be surprised if somebody just HAD to kill this animal just because of it's uniqueness.

Yes, I'm against hunting so that was sarcasm. It's hard to tell in writing.

Seneca army depot has a herd. I've seen a few of them when I've driven by.

The white deer at Seneca army base are interesting. I've seen them and taken pictures at only a few feet.Thought the fence. NYS built a new prison using part of the base. The fence was opened to allow for construction and some of these deer wondered out. So now we have the white gene mixing with our free ranging deer. This white gene is not limited to white tail deer. There are white moose in Alaska and white black bear off British Columbia coast.

Just wanted to let you all know that "Piglet", as we refer to him(?) is still around. These photos were taken a few months ago, but we see him and his cadre several times a week feeding in the backyard.
