I took this picture just the other day, as it arrived here for the winter. This hawk is somewhat famous on the west coast, as it has been coming here, some 250 miles out of its normal winter range, for the last 13 years ! That would make this one a senior citizen. It was great watching it for a half hour, first a spell of perching in it's favorite places, then a long slow, lofty flight over the territory in ever increasing circles, just like a turkey vulture.
