Weird, stinging larva?

Tuesday while jogging alongside a field at the farm, some kind of larva with a fairly long, tubular mouth wound up stinging the crap out of me. It somehow got into my shoe and wound up atop my no-show socks, and the sting was worse than any yellowjacket sting I've ever had. The creature was white and grub-like physically, save for that black, tubular mouth. I'd say it was an inch long at the most. About 10 or 11 years ago at the same place I was walking around the pond fishing, and saw a similar creature. Being a bug-crazy kid, I picked it up, and was rewarded with a painful sting on the hand. This one was a solid 1.5" long though. Any idea what this creature is? I've googled and looked several other places and can't find any answers.
