Great 15 Minute Hunt

I went to Gary2Sons yesterday afternoon to take pictures of a juvenile coachwhip and do a little herping with his sons. No one was home when I got there. I waited about an hour for them to show up, but nobody came. I took a few photos of the coachwhip and decided to check out the tin and boards they put out on their property. Under the first layer of two pieces of tin I found an 18" red milksnake. About forty feet away were two more pieces of tin. There were two red milks under the first piece of tin. Down by the pond I found two young adult northern water snakes. I also found several prairie ringnecks. About that time Gary came walking down the trail. He told the football games took longer than he thought and the boys were at a pizza party. I told Gary what I found in a few minutes and took him over to the pieces of tin. The milk snakes were still under the tin. He said the two together were the same ones he saw a week or so ago under the tin where I found only on milk. He said he thought the single milk was one they had not seen this year.

Earlier in the day, I stopped by my former boss' house to visit. We went out on his deck and a 2.5" speckled king was crawling across it.

I have only been out herping twice this year and have found a total of 5 milks. The largest being at least 30".

Not too bad for about an hours worth of hunting.
