Hi Mitzi, Falcon Inn is a small bar/restaurant. Mattel Toys used to be across the street from it. I used to work there back in '86-87. Animas: What kind of problem are you having with your marrubium rotundifolium? That has been one of my favorite plants for tough areas for several years. I grow it in both xeric and irrigated areas, and it does so well I have to hack it back each spring. Should love your tough slope. Mystree: for permaculture information, there is a guy in my area that specializes in this. Actually has a school, and it's amazing what he grows at 7200'. Website is below. Coflower nut: I have subscribed to every single landscape mag there is - even the British ones, and none are especially good for our area. For flower gardens, I find I tag the most pages in the Better Homes and Gardens specialty mags - Garden Shed, Country Gardens, Deck and Garden, all those. And of course Sunset Mtn edtion does have small sections on mtn gardening. Do you read Garden Design and Horticulture? Both very good mags. We've had a great snow winter here. Thought Spring might be coming last week when it warmed up, but now - like some of you no doubt - we're in the midst of a 5 day snowstorm. Must have over 200 birds out at the feeders right now - wow! Hey Paperfinch, Welcome to the Tennessee Forum of Gardenweb. You're about three years late for this particular thread. Why don't you start a new thread and introduce yourself to everyone. Maybe you could tell us where you live (closest city, for instance) and what things you are most interested in. Many of us also do lots of seed exchanging, but often specialize in certain things. For instance, some participants may grow mostly vegetables, some annual or perennial flowers, and others (like me) more trees and woody plants. Gardenweb has a Seed Exchange Forum that works well for trading for seeds, but we'd still like to get to know you here too. As you may have seen, each third of Tennessee has their own Plant Swap. These are events that you should really really really try to attend if possible. I'm currently working to get the East Tennessee Plant Swap website at www.easttnplantswap.com up and going for people in east TN. The Middle Tennessee Plant Swap has a site at www.midtnplantswap.com. And, I think the West Tennessee people rely on this forum, currently, for announcements.

LOL on the falcon attacking the plastic owl! Hawk Mountain Sanctuary's famous North Lookout (the site of the official autumn hawkwatch) has a pole with a fake owl placed on it to purposely lure some of the migrating raptors in for a closer look. And dive-bomb it they do! I've seen Am. Kestrels, merlins, sharp-shinned hawks, and even a red-tailed hawk take a whack at it! Great-horned owls are indeed ememies of falcons and will prey on their young if they get a chance. Do you know what kind of falcon it was?
