Best find today wasn't a herp....

I decided to try out Swan Lake National Wildlife Refuge today in North Central Missouri in quest of the perpetually elusive Massassagua.

The weather didn't cooperate real well and after arriving at 3:15 pm and walking an hour in 64 degree rainy weather and soaking my feet thoroughly in the prairire grass, I decided to walk some drier refuge roads. The weather improved slightly and I did see 3 Blotched Water Snakes (plus 2 DOR), umpteen frogs (Bull, Chorus and Leopard with Gray Tree Frogs heard but not seen) and some nice bird life (Barred Owl up close, a Tern, Indigo Buntings, and some Bobwhite, Wild Turkey and Pheasants). I also saw 7 Raccoons and many Deer.

However, the highlight occurred around 7 PM when I was driving a gravel refuge road and low and behold a robust Bobcat was standing right on the road a few feet in front of the car. Well it skidaddled into the brush pretty quick, but it was a nice sighting. (My 4th Bobcat in the wild and 1st in Missouri--all were seen while herping of course).
