Snake ID please
Comments (13)Definitely not a moccasin. The head is all wrong. I might be willing to agree on the black racer, but the young ones I've seen about this size (basing size on the rubble and debris) usually have more grey and more defined blotches in the pattern. Still, it could very well be one that has started darkening early... Yeah, I'll go with Juvie Racer that needs to lay off of the tanning booth. It's the only thing that really comes to mind looking at him....See MoreSnake ID please
Comments (5)It is indeed a Glass Lizard. Find a copy of Peterson's Guide to Reptiles and Amphibians of Eastern/Central North America, and look up the Glass Lizards. Looks to me like an Eastern. I have seen exactly one live one, and it was too fast for me. Called "Glass Snake" and "Joint Snake" due to the ease with which the tail breaks off, sometimes into several pieces. Comments (5)It's a baby Black Rat Snake(Pantherophis obsoletta), a very common species in Virginia. Most people, I guess, expect the babies to be black like adults are in this region, but that isn't the case. This one is very typical of a hatchling Black Rat....See MoreSnake ID please
Comments (2)Garter snake. Not venomous, eats slugs and other things. Don't try to handle them - they can secrete a very smelly substance to make predators go away....See MoreCall.me-Ino8
