My suggestion is to get a large pump sock or bag and line it on the bottom and sides with coarse filter material. Some come with both bag/filter media already or you can also just buy the bag and rig up using filter media of your choice. Make sure it is coarse and thick. It is easy to pull out of the pond and rinse it off with the hose periodically. Most big pumps also come with a rigid pre-filter (I like) and some with a sponge filter (which I find clog too quickly). I have a pondmaster 2400 and it is in a large fine mess bag with draw string and this bag came with a circular thick coarse filter that fits the bottom and a rectangular coarse filter I can wrap around the inside of the mesh bag. Then the whole filter, with it's rigid pre-filter, goes right into the bag (in the middle) and I draw it up around the pump with just the hose sticking out. It rarely needs cleaning other than a rinse and my pump doesn't clog ever. Here is just one source with bags but you can find combo units all over the internet. Most likely your own brand of pump sells something specific to your pump size and shape as many manufactuers do. Mine was actually not built for my pump model but it is big. I am pretty sure the smaller one is a Leopard Frog, don't know about the larger one. The small frog moved into a shallow plastic bin for the last three days were I had dug up a big clump of daylilies I wanted to divide. As I was busy and had no time to do it, I just clunked them in that bin with water. It couldn't stay there, I have to dump it ever few days so I caught it and actually put it in the stocktank. Thats why I got a good look. All these years here and I never had a frog but I had above ground for ponds. I have come to the conclusion that at least around here the frogs don't like above ground. Now I have that one small pond in my backyard 3 feet by 12 inches deep and in ground and I have decided that the stocktank will also go ingound going to start digging hole hopefully this week. So hopefully I will have frogs each year from now on.

I am a new member of this forum. I have really enjoyed looking at the terrariums linked on these pages. The info regarding certain harder-to-keep varieties of plants has also been helpful. When I read this thread, I felt that I had to reply. PDF's are not hard to keep. There are 10 year old children in my neighborhood who are successfully maintaining a vivarium with the frogs, and even breeding the frogs. Personally, I have over 50 vivariums in my home. Each one contains some poison dart frogs. Any and every color you can imagine. Orchids, bromeliads, tropical mosses, waterfalls, you name it. I really like the terrariums, but when you add a pair of bright, electric blue frogs, now you have some life!! Yes, you do have to culture, or purchase, the fruit flies. The flies we use in the hobby cannot fly. They are non-invasive and very easy to culture. They do not smell either. I have 200 cultures going at a time, there is a slight smell with this many cultures, but most visitors to our frog rooms do not even notice it. Mixing the frogs and plants to create vivariums has been the most rewarding journey of my life. I encourage everyone, not to base your opinions of keeping PDF's based on heresay, or an experience of a friend from 10 years ago. The hobby has changed drastically over the last decade. The frogs are easy to obtain, and there is soooo much info on keeping these precious little gems. Remember, everyone starts with no experience. Please fell free to email with any questions.
