Hello from the UK!

I wonder if anybody can ID this lizard, which was seen sometime in the 70s in the States (not sure where, my parents were passing through!)

Ah, my old pal the Green Anole (Anolis carolinensis). I miss those guys.

I was just going to start a new thread with a photo of our resident green anole in our garden in Guanacaste Costa Rica. I will post it here instead!

Thank you both! I think it is definitely a Amorphophallus , perhaps Amorphophallus 'Konjac'. I should be able to figure it out from here. I just needed a push in the right direction since "lizard plant/tree" got me nowhere quick and I really had nothing else to go on. If it blooms it will go well with my Stapelia gigante.... :) Thanks again

Perhaps a juvenile Golden Tegu? These lizards can get big (3 foot long body alone) and like the monitor lizards, are invasive and established in Florida - especially around the Tampa and Miami areas. They cause the same type of destruction as monitor lizards, too. And you can still find them being sold as pets! I can't find a picture of a juvie, but maybe this picture will help you determine if this is what you saw, although it looks more yellow than orange to me. Its an Eastern Newt in its terrestrial eft stage. It has toxic body slime secretions, don't touch your eyes after handling it, and some people might be more sensitive, so watch for skin irritations, too. The only thing I could find on the Missouri Department of Conservation site was regarding a subspecies, the central newt. I don't think that's a central newt. I used to sell Eastern (or red-spotted) Newts at my pet store, they're really interesting, for about two weeks. lol However, it WAS really cool to catch some larvae with gills from a pond at Girl Scout Camp, they were tiny. Thanks. After many 'tries' I eventually got one posted on another forum. After looking at 'your' green anole and 'mine' they are so differant. Is 'mine 'really' a green anole?

CRF, yours isn't even an anole :)

It looks like some sort of iguana, but you're going to have to look into lizards specific to your area to figure this one out! Maybe a Google search for "Costa Rica" and "iguana" will turn up some clues?

When I was looking at the others I decided, no... 'my' iguana wasn't a green anole! Sorry,...but this one is...I think!

I'd say yes. First one juvenile Green Iguana, second, Green Anole.
