Name This Animal

Please ID this creature (lizard)

Hi

Any idea of what this is? He was found near our strawberry patch in So. Central Missouri in Early June 2010 and is 2 - 3 inches long with really pretty iridescent dots along his whole body (as you can see if I can upload a photo. The color is reddish rusty brown and the dots are either black or orange.

It's a newt or salamander. No scales = no lizard

Its an Eastern Newt in its terrestrial eft stage. It has toxic body slime secretions, don't touch your eyes after handling it, and some people might be more sensitive, so watch for skin irritations, too.

The only thing I could find on the Missouri Department of Conservation site was regarding a subspecies, the central newt. I don't think that's a central newt.

I used to sell Eastern (or red-spotted) Newts at my pet store, they're really interesting, for about two weeks. lol

However, it WAS really cool to catch some larvae with gills from a pond at Girl Scout Camp, they were tiny.

You won't get bitten by one unless you grab it. They don't run out and attack you or anything. No problem there, right? And it's the overall damage they are doing to the environment, just like Cuban treefrogs, but on a smaller scale. So far. South Florida is so full of exotics, it is really sad. Thank you both! I think it is definitely a Amorphophallus , perhaps Amorphophallus 'Konjac'. I should be able to figure it out from here. I just needed a push in the right direction since "lizard plant/tree" got me nowhere quick and I really had nothing else to go on. If it blooms it will go well with my Stapelia gigante.... :) Thanks again

some type of nematode? google for nematode pics might help I don't think most animal parasitic 'worms' live long outside the animal except as egg or larva Bill

Facebook's Reptile and Amphibian Identification page will get you a quicker answer and a more authoritative answer. I can tell you it is one of the Italian Podarcis species, but someone there could give you a much better ID.

Definitely an Eastern Newt (Notophthalmus viridescens) .... if you go for subspecies its a Central Newt (Notophthalmus viridescens louisianensis).
