It's a Snowberry Clearwing moth, and no it will not sting (doesn't have the equipment to do so). I raised caterpillars last year. Their host plant is honeysuckle and viburnum. They are one of the few day-flying sphinx moths and such cuter little things! These types of moths are often referred to as "hummingbird moths" because their wings are constantly moving and they "hover" to drink nectar like hummers do. They are wonderful pollinators. Susan

I have a few varieties of hornworms. The tomato hornworm which eats members of the nightshade family and Catalpa worms which only eat my Catalpa tree. They can completely defoliate a plant or tree but the Sphinx moths that they turn into are so cool. There's nothing I can do about my Catalpa tree but I remove the Tomato hornworms from my brugs and daturas and have a little tomato patch just for them to feed on. The caterpillars are usually fairly large and come in different color patterns but they all have a little horn on their butt. Karyn

Those are absolutely the larvae of soldier flies. They are quite common in compost piles and bins, where they act as decomposers. Just be aware that too many are not a good thing; they can turn your compost to sludge. The adults don't feed on anything....just around to procreate.

Its an Eastern Newt in its terrestrial eft stage. It has toxic body slime secretions, don't touch your eyes after handling it, and some people might be more sensitive, so watch for skin irritations, too. The only thing I could find on the Missouri Department of Conservation site was regarding a subspecies, the central newt. I don't think that's a central newt. I used to sell Eastern (or red-spotted) Newts at my pet store, they're really interesting, for about two weeks. lol However, it WAS really cool to catch some larvae with gills from a pond at Girl Scout Camp, they were tiny.
