Yes...but to me, if all the sites are dead, the business is closed. Maybe it's just me...we maintain several websites, some are just redirects, they aren't that expensive, so I figure if someone doesn't want to have even a static page then they probably don't want to be bothered. For all I know, the number I find is a home number (it was at another farm) and I might be calling only to find out someone passed away. I know that sounds crazy, but as someone who has dealt with small owner/operator businesses for years, I know it does happen. I used to deal direct with them on a weekly basis in a past job, and it's sad to to think how many former customers have passed on. So I thought I'd ask to see if they are still in fact, in business. I'm glad to hear this isn't the case-but after one weekly sales call only to speak to a very upset family telling me my customer had a heart attack...well, I'd rather not do THAT again. I wasn't aware that you were (not meaning this in a bad way) that into Hosta that you would know, or just that you were suggesting it off hand. I don't live by my computer...but I'm also unreasonably busy lately so email is easier, lol. I'll call sometime when I have a chance to actually sit for a time on the phone without 10000 interruptions (this post probably took an hour to write between other things I have to do). Defiantely not for the next few days, since I'm working and we have to pick up about 800 bricks for a patio so I won't even eat dinner until 9/9:30 at night for the next couple of days...then we're moving a shed, installing a floor, planting in the rest of what we got at a plant exchange...

Had a close encounter with a buzzard at the weekend. My poor cochin chicken 'Pepper' had an even closer one! I watched in horror as the buzzard plunged onto my poor hen. Within seconds the buzzard had dismembered the head. My futile sprint across the garden just led to this enormous bird( when close up) taking off with Pepper slung below. I am guessing that this is just normal behaviour and Pepper was unlucky. Although I have been keeping hens in the garden for 20 years and this has never happened before. Is it because this breed of chicken is small enough to become buzzard friendly?

Lynn, DH and I have a lakefront cabin in the village of Saranac Lake, which is in the High Peaks region of the Adirondacks. In my humble opinion, this area is the closest place to heaven you could find on this earth! Although the village is called Saranac Lake, we are actually on Kiwassa Lake, a beautiful serene lake that is connected to 40 miles of waterway, including the Saranac Lake chains of Lower Saranac, Middle Saranac and Upper Saranac. We love where we are because it has so far been untouched by the typical overdevelopment many lakefronts experience. The lakefront lots are mostly very large (ours is over an acre and considered small!) and beautifully wooded. We spend hours on our boat, traveling through the chain of lakes, stopping at small islands for picnics, waterskiing, tubing, etc. The fishing, of course, is great as well. And in the backdrop of these glimmer glass lakes are the high peaks of the Adirondacks--reflected so majestically in the water. In addition the the fabulous hiking (there are hikes to accomodate any level of ability and the views are to die for), there is a wonderful arts and cultural life here. Saranac Lake is a kind of "earthy crunchy" little village with many new art galleries and little eateries. Very laid back here--picture teeva's, birkenstocks and hiking clothes. Ten miles down the road is Lake Place, home of the Lake Placid Horse Show (attended by many celebrities), fabulous restaurants, nice little shops and boutiques, the Olympic attractions (including regular ice shows, ski jumps, bobsled rides), Whiteface Mt. gondola rides, arts and theatre. Really anything you could want to do is here! We have a five bedroom, semi-rustic adirondack cabin right on the lake. We bought it from DH's family about 8 years ago, DH grew up there as a kid. We love it--it's one of the older ones on the lake and fortunately much of the adirondack charm was preserved over the years. We do rent it out in the summer (in your price range--gee hate to sound like an ad). I could give you the name of our realtor if you'd like!
