Thanks for that warning! I've even seen kayackers take their big galloping retrievers with them, then turn them loose to chase nesting birds on remote beach islands. Why people insist on bringing their uncontrolled pets with them to bird and wildlife areas is beyond me-we even saw it at the Ft Worth wildlife preserve. I've even seen them walk their dogs (lunging on the leash) right past posted signs forbidding pets on beach. Probably the same people who let their cats roam the neighborhood.

Can't really tell anything from a fuzzy picture taken at that distance. If you can wipe off the lens and get up close (3 inches is close), then take a picture. Pictures in the shade turn out better. Also if you can get a picture of the grass with seed heads on it that makes identification easier. Here's a picture of a hybrid buffalo grass with seed and flowers. This might be what you have.

Are you sure your rose that's supposed to be 'Reine Victoria' isn't correct? I grew it a long time ago, and the blooms appear similar, as do the smooth canes and the susceptibility to fungal disease. Yours is a lot more vigorous than mine ever was, though. I don't remember about foliage details, buds, hips, etc. I would guess the foliage of the correct rose would be matte but fairly smooth, and prickles well distanced, well developed, and hard. I like wildish gardens. Yours looks wonderful.

Thank you Lorilie! I do have Lady Ashe, and the mystery rose does look very similar and they both have the same shiny foliage. That's what led me to thinking I had Aloha, but when I asked RVR they were confident it wasn't Aloha, so I'm not sure. Maybe more time and maturity will help verify
