Snowny Owl story and questions.

I noticed something big and white back across the field. It looked like a snowy owl, which I have never seen b4. I checked with a neighbor who volunteers at the local rehab raptor center and found out it had just been released back to the wild 2 days ago. It had been found injured, back in Oct 04, presumabley hit by a vehicle, and had been nursed back to health at the center.

In checking my Peterson Field Guide, it states:

"Cyclic: winters south to dash line (which looks like it is about 200 miles south of here)during interruption years."

My question is just what is an interruption year? Possibly a bad year for the lemmings?

Help please...Sue (who is really excited about the 'Snowy'.)
