I think they are grown for feed for fishes, birds or for turtles or other reptiles, both for pets and for labs, zoos, etc. - please correct me if I'm wrong. It isn't the thought of that many insects all together that would get me, it's all the NOISE!!! One cricket in the house is all I can stand! If I were closer, I could be definitely interested, but shipping charges would probably offset any cost advantage. Thanks for the info.

I would throw the organic book at the lawn. 1. Try to encourage birds to your yard by putting out bird feeders, bird baths, and bird houses. Also you could apply cracked corn and/or alfalfa pellets to attract birds. Note that some of the cracked corn is not cracked but is only small enough to fit through the screen, so you'll get a few corn plants that mow off easily. 2. I would also spray these beneficial nematodes and see what happens. Water heavily after you apply. 3. Spray with liquid seaweed or milk every week or so. The purpose is to build up healthy grass plants that will resist pests better. Note that my organic book is not very long. I shy away from commercial materials.

The plants have recovered nicely from being just bare stalks. They are filling out with new green growth and the leaves aren't being eaten off yet. Only insects I've seen are the earwigs and maybe their season is over. I'm going to try and winter over these plants indoors so I can watch closly for insects.

Yep, too many English grasshoppers to choose from. We could determine the insect type (Order and sometimes family) in all your photos, but they were not large enough in the images for identifying details to show up. You may need to be a little sneakier next time and get closer. Move slowly and avoid casting a sudden shadow on your insect subjects.
