Juvenlie Bald Eagle?

I don't have a picture, but I am almost positive I have a juvenile bald eagle hanging around. The strange thing was when I saw him over the lake with my spotting scope it was carrying a large stick. I watched him land on a log that was laying on the ground that goes into the water. It dropped the stick on the ground. It sat there for a long time, which gave me time to identify it. Would a juvenile be making a nest? Do they begin making nests this time of year? Would it be making a nest on the ground? I live in Northwest Indiana so it is unusual that the eagle be here at all, although I have seen an adult eagle over our lake before. Any info would be helpful on at what age an eagle makes its own nest and what time of year they build them.

It's always exciting to see a Bald eagle.

They reach sexual maturity at 4-6 years of age, at which point they will have an adult's white head and white tail. They breed in the highest tree. And in many parts of North America, breeding season is underway.

The bald eagles greeted me for the start of the New Year. I walked past the parking area and up the driveway with the first dog and the screaming and cackling began. It was loud and they had to be close. They were--about 100 feet away and about 80 feet up a tree. An adult--with all its white plumage--and an immature bald eagle sitting next to each other. Another adult had flown off--probably after hearing me open the garage door. While walking the second dog, I heard a crack from a tree on the other side of the house. The other adult must have landed there and took flight again. While on that side of the house, I heard a white-throat singing its song. Then a red-belly called and finally an eagle again. The red-bellies are here all year; the white-throats are here for the Winter as are the eagles. Happy New Year.

Me too, mimipadv. Nature is not for the squeamish. Has anyone else heard of Wild Heart Ranch in Claremore, Ok? They do a lot of great work. They rehab and return eagles (and many other animals) to the wild. Their FB feed is always interesting. http://www.wildheartranch.org/default.asp
