Thanks! I always thought aphids were white or light green (what I see on my veggies from time to time)so I never considered them as a possibilty here. Would spraying them off with a hose be acceptable to rubbing them off? Even with gloves on, I know I'll be "feeling" them all over for days....

What to do depends on what you have. If these are Fungus Gnats simply spraying poisons around to kill off the adults most likely will not solve the problem since more adults will come from the larva that grow in the growing medium. Might be whitefly. Might also be grain moths and the source is far removed from the plants. First identify what you have before spraying stuff that can have an adverse affect on your health as well.

This is a global pest, one of the species of grain beetles. They infest stored grains, seeds, flour, etc., all over the world. You should see the little larvae in your seed collection....they are what feed on the seeds. Commercially, seed warehouses are treated with horticultural or food grade diatomaceous earth (DE). Non food seeds will be chemically treated in storage. Consumers can bring flours, pasta, bird seed, etc., home and store them in the freezer or fridge (after a freezer treatment). Can't recommend that with viable seed. DE is the way to go when you collect and store seeds in the future. Food/horticultural grade DE is edible, by the way, and can be used to protect coriander seeds even if you use them as a personal culinary spice.

I already started some new seeds after washing everything in bleach solution. Had to toss out almost all of the opalka, eva purple ball and san marzano to prevent further spread of the problem but thankfully there still is time. I also sprayed the other seedlings with safer soap last night and so far they look good. I believe I got the aphids from miracle grow soil mix. I always clean everything thoroughly before starting new seeds so I know it isn't anything from inside the house. Definitely won't go for that mix again. So Dave you think it is the aphids? That is actually much better than what I expected. I was totally thinking that it was some kind of bacterial/fungal problem and I will be doomed this year.
