Found Monarch Chrysalis

embee

Cutting down the remains of my perennial flower garden today, I found a monarch chrysalis attached to a day lily leaf.

Not knowing anything except what I've seen at butterfly sanctuaries, I poked many holes into the top of a small tupperware (large enough to hold an adult monarch should the situation apply), and clipped the lid over both sides of the leaf, so that it is running perfectly level from side to side and the chrysalis is hanging upside down.

So now what? Is this thing really going to hatch in early October? Then what? Set it free in the cold? Do I keep the chrysalis inside or outside? And no, I have not so much as touched or handled the chrysalis.

The chrysalis is deep green with a noticeable gold band, and I can see the colored wings inside. Hopefully that is a good sign.

Please help, thanks.
