Natal Plum/any growers in here?
Comments (5)Flowerfairy, my Natal Plum is a little over 10 yrs old. I don't know if it's location, but I find them slow-growing. Years ago, I grew an NP as a bonsai. It did better in a small pot. Flowered and produced fruit at a young age. My newer NP hasn't done either, and it's three time the size as the first plant, growing in a large pot. 6" pot. Don't overpot. The NP I have now is wintered in a cool greenhouse.. Even though it's cool, NP doesn't grow any slower than my previous plant kept in the house. NP is a sun lover. Although they like humidity, medium will suffice. Overwatering will kill NP, so use a well-draining soil, neutral pH, in a container with drainage. Good luck, NP's are really nice plants. Toni...See MoreAny other Zone 4 or Minnesota tomato growers here?
Comments (4)I went with beefsteak, romas, and large red cherry tomatoes. Started them inside under lights a bit too early and put them out a bit too early (tax time and the weekend after). I lucked out cause we didn't get a late frost. I got them along a fence, on the boulevard in what was my tulip bed, in with a flower garden, and in containers in the back of my yard. I got some that are tennis ball size, others golf ball size and a bunch of LRC tomatoes that look like I can put in my salad next week if the weather stays warm. I am going to put some compost around them and give them some grass clippings for mulch this weekend. Oh, and a purple variety that I am waiting to taste. So far so good. And the peppers are loving the heat too....See MoreAny Pa Rose Growers Here? which OGRs and Austins are your Favs?
Comments (4)What part of PA, please? If in the SE part of the state, I recommend a trip over to the Moorestown Mall (Moorestown, NJ) this Saturday for the West Jersey Rose Society's rose show (the Philadelphia show was yesterday). Many of the SE PA/NJ rose growers will be there, you'll get to see a lot of the once-blooming OGRs (in addition to a lot of the modern shrubs) and quite a few are now growing without synthetic chemicals. I can recommend Marchesa Boccella, Rose de Recht, Cardinal de Richelieu and Lyda Rose. Polyanthas also do very well....See MoreAny mango growers in Dallas-Ft Worth area?
Comments (32)C Wes how did you graft work out? I did my first graft today on persimmons. Hoping I get one to take :) My alphonso mango died but my Baileys is doing good. Im hoping it'll flower this year and fruit. Last year I moved into a new house and did not provide adequate lighting during the winter and a lot of my plants suffered. This year I brought them all inside and provided plenty of light. My plan is to plant several of the tropicals in the ground this spring and then build a structure around them to protect them during winter. So far this winter has been pretty mild so im hoping next year it doesn't get worse than this. Will make it so much easier to keep tropicals outside....See MoreExoticRGVNativesTy
