A Blue Heron got a peck at my Koi a few weeks ago but I luckily came outside to find it out of the pond, I quickly ran over, picked it up and placed it back in the water. He is still alive and was doing fine until the same thing happened this morning! Unfortunately, he got pecked a bit harder a couple times on the head above the eye toward the gill. I again, ran over picked him up and put him back in the water, only this time, he has not recovered as well. After reading some forums on www.koi phen.com/forums I put him in a container, put some neosporin on the wound and put 5 drops on stress coat in there. He is such a Rambo! He is still "dazed" but looks at me when I walk up and is still breathing and moving his fins but he is ?lopsided? I am not sure that he will pull through... The other Koi didn't come up from the bottom of the pond until later this afternoon... poor things :(

This is such an old thread, I hope someone interested in herons still will see it. We’re in Texas, a few miles from a marsh preserve. First time in 15 years, a juvenile Yellow Crowned Night heron visited our pool/spa last week. She was here for a few days. She flew in again today. She likes to sit in the spa - it’s quite amusing. She sits with water up to her shoulders and dunks her head. The water is probably over 95 degrees, as today’s temp is 100, with feels like temp of 108. My worry is that she may not be eating enough to nourish her. We of course have no fish or crustaceans for her. We do have small lizards, some toads, frogs, and field rats. The rats run the fences, sometimes climb adjacent tree, forage flower beds and gardens. Every night I see what I tell myself is the same rat, ‘running the fences’. For many years there was a very large field one street over; now it is just large. Is anyone aware of herons feeding on rats? I wouldn’t worry about her so much if she was capable of catching those fast little critters. A couple of those per night would be a good meal, I would think. Oh, we also have opossums that come in baby season. Baby possums would also make a good meal for the heron. I have seen them swimming on the baby ledge of our pool. That was crazy. Seems the wildlife uses our pool more than we do these days.

Great Blue Herons make me think what it must have been like to have a pteradactyl fly overhead during prehistoric times. It is always a thrill to see them. Here, they fly from the nearby lake to the many reservoir ponds in our area, and are commonly seen early morning & at dusk. I recently had the extra treat of seeing 2 males solving a disagreement by having a flying, swooping chase thru the neighborhood. Incidently, the sound made by a Great Blue Heron resembles a "bark" more so than a "honk"

@Marylee H Thank you so much for taking your time to break down interpretation of the colorgraphy chart. I understand a bit better all the different variables of the color choices. Is there are "favorable" set of objective measurements for west-facing rooms? I find that my colors tend to look more gray/blue/dingy in my living room even with the 4000k led lights (which I was finally able to find). I would like to add some warmth without going too yellow. Previously, I made the mistake of pairing Behr's Pebble Cream with Ultra Pair White trims - the mix of warm and cool(?) was a mess and enhanced the overall yellowness. Yet colors like SW's Aesthetic White looked too grey and too much "chroma" - when paired with Ultra Pure White trims, and BM's Glacier White and White Dove looked too dingy. It has been very difficult trying to find a neutral off-white color that is not too yellow without going too dingy (too much gray?) Should I go towards the Y of the Hue? Looking now at Benjamin Moore: Soft Chamois, Cloud White, Gentle Cream, Navajo White (BM, not SW) .
