Oh dear, that can't be good for the poor little thing. It will never make it south on time. They fly fast, but not that fast. I wonder if that poor hummer didn't inherit the instinct to migrate.

I know. Poor little thing. Maybe it was from a late hatch and has no idea what it's in for. I told her to put out food. May not help but can't hurt.

Surrey is on the coast, just north of Washington and thus has a milder climate and is within the range of Anna's Hummingbirds. The bird is most likely an Anna's of which most along the coast do not migrate but are there year-round and do benefit from feeders.

Wonderful she can still see them. They are long gone here in Mid Michigan.

She now has two Hummers coming to a feeder she put out.

That is so cool. I guess I should have looked at a map before commenting. My mind tends to stay on east coast and think of Canada as north of here. I had no idea Anna's hummingbirds could survive on the west coast that far north.
