i use it all the time for the doves and jays and the grosbeaks and finches. I have some feeders for the little birds with boss and millet and in a different area have feeders both on the ground and hanging for other birds,
lots of people discourage the bigger trash birds but i try to feed them all. the local farm and ranch store sells a mix called hen scratch or chicken scratch. It has cracked corn and wheat and milo mainly.
the doves love the wheat berrys and the jays and grosbeaks the cracked corn and the milo disappears fast i'm not sure which eats it best?
I do get a couple ground squirrels that eat it all but are not here all the time. The magpies come and go but they too eat everything.
the juncos have not come yet this fall but they love cracked corn along with the house finches.
the Lewis's woodpeckers and the flickers eat it good too but they are seasonal visiters.
