it is kind of in between seasons here now wintery some days and sunny others. Mostly juncos in the back yard with a few assorted sparrow and finches and a couple chickadees and nuthatches. the cold snowy or rainy days is when i get the birds and the sunny ones not many come by. I am strickly and amateur backyard bird watcher and hope to post some junco pictures and get comments on the different ones i catch with the camera.

the feeders are only 5 foot or less from the window and as long as i don't make noise or go outside they don't ever seem to see me. The main problem i have is the area is in shade about half the time and the pictures are not light or clear unless they are in the sun. I am still trying to
get more of the woodpeckers to show up when the sun is shining as i get lots of poor pictures, And i guess i have taken hundreds of junco pictures and only save about one out of a dozen. At least there are a lot of the litle birds around this time of year. Juncos and finches and chikadees and sparrows.

It sure does look like the one you have Konrad. I am used to seeing only the Slate colored ones. But checking out Juncos I see that there are many color variations. Nice pictures.I have had Juncos around all winter. ( slate colored) so was surprised to see these.

This one doesn't look like a junco to me. Any one else?

This one is a 'gray-headed' type; just a bit of the rufous mantle is visible, all of the other field marks are in place. Check Sibley's.

Ah, way cool, I hadn't seen one of these before. My Sibley doesn't show as much black on the wings as this one has, is that unusual?
