Saw an unusual robin

Sorry I don't have a pic to share with you. I ran to get my camera, but it was gone when I got back. Last week I looked out my window, down to the ground, and there was a bird I couldn't identify from the back. It was black and white. Then it moved, and I realized it was a robin! It had alot of white on its back. Anyone else ever see this in a robin?

i have not seen it on robins but this last spring i had 4 lewis's woodpeckers hatch out in the woods across the fence from me. They were daily visiters to the feeders and three were normal but one had large sploches of white on its back ond neck. looked like somebody spilt bleach on it.
they all left when it got hot and dry and went to the mountains. But hope they show up next spring.

Yes.....it looked just like bleach had been spilled!

Hello, bonniepunch; Do you think Blue Shrimp Plant (Cerinthe major purpurascens), Anise Hyssop/Licorice Mint (Agastache foeniculum) and/or Hare's Ear (Bupleurum rotundifolium) would do? As you may have read in the Canadian forum, I'm just now gathering seeds up (first time for me), and these 3 have a fair number of seeds (about a hundred for the Hare and Shrimp, and thousands for the Anise). I have several other oddballs out there but I don't want to promise something I may not have the strength to collect this year. Do you think these would do? If so, how much would you need? Marcia Im sure they will be comming your way soon. There were so many last night it looked as if a cloud was flying around my yard..lol I have 2 hawks roosting in the neighbors tree with a nest .. I can hear babies but cant ee ven with bnoculars! Cora Im with you on the lilacs and especially with out allergies to crape mrytles I wish they grew here. I will try to talk to the robins and give them directions to your house! Maybe tomarrow or later today I can catch a few on camera but I was unprepared yesterday. As for the snow I would love to visit it but gotta say I erally dont miss it much anymore just the family that is still there. Headed back out to do some more work! Donna

Hello Holedigger: Excuse me from piping in but when you said variegated leaves, I thought perhaps you might be speaking of Hibiscus schizopetalus, which is commonly planted in the tropics. Without a better description, I could be wrong, but is this what you saw? If it is, this comes in variegated leaf form as well and is available and all of the major online nurseries, including Kartuz, Aloha Tropicals and Logee's. Other possibilities are hau (Hibiscus tiliaceus) which has a variegated leaf mixed with some pink) or H. arnottianus As far as giant whitefly goes, try mixing in some worm castings into the soil around the plants. After you rinse the colonies off, till this into the soil. Not only is it a good organic ferilizer, but it adds a taste to the plant that deter whiteflies. It usually lasts for about six months. Hello,

Last winter we had a chickadee with one entire side of its face white, and a blue jay with one side (head and body) all white. Really strange to see, isn't it? I wouldn't know what it was if it weren't for this forum.

Hi Catherinet, I know you are in the USA and I am in Europe, but I saw the other day in the UK newspaper an entirely white, albino robin. I am interested especially in robins as I had a little, slightly deformed female who visited me for 2 years. No more, alas. However I have noticed and marked down that they have arrived here in the south of France, nearly a month early. I usually reckon Armistice day, 11 Nov. Is this a sign of a hard winter to come, along with masses of berries on the trees?, Jacqui
