Female Painted Bunting. Might I suggest a good field guide? :) National Geographic's Field Guide to the Birds of North America is a good one.

Thanks feather..im going to get a couple of guides. From the pics I see though I dont think that is a painted bunting,,It has a far more slender form and there are at least a pair of them, both the same color. Im going to try posting another pic that will give another perspective.

I took a look and she almost looks like a tanager! If so, go with female Scarlet, but the wings don't seem dark enough; possibly a juvenile female?

Hi Pandy. I'm new at this too and a couple of weeks ago I saw a bird just like yours at my feeder. It took me a while and I made an incorrect guess at first, but I came to the conclusion that it was a female painted bunting. Look at the beak shape and the yellow ring around the eye. Maybe this spring we'll be able to see its beautiful mate!
I would post my picture, but i have yet to figure out how to do it!

Georgia, Im hoping too that next year I get to see that color. Umm..I figured out how to post a single pic but darn if I could explain it LOL.

I had a pair of female painted buntings here (Atlanta, out of range) a few years ago in early Sept. I spent all day looking for a male, no such luck but the two females hung around my back yard for hours.
