Prospective birdhouse tenants

So I hung this birdhouse in the palmtree 7 feet off the deck and eight feet from my door. There's also a popular feeder on the wall next to door. It was meant mostly as being ornamental and whimsical. Who ever saw a birdhouse in a palm tree?

Well guess what? Already a white-breasted nuthatch, plain titmouse, and a downy woodpecker have shown a keen interest in the house which specs work for all of them.

The downy has been all up and down the tree, all over the house several times and has tried to modify the hole a bit to his liking. He has poked his beak inside the hole. Both the nuthatch and titmouse have been inside the house and have thoroughly inspected it.

So, was it a mistake to hang the house so early in the season. I know, some of you are going to say it's a mistake to hang a birdhouse in a tree to begin with.

But anyway should I just let the birds fight it out or close up the door for a few months. I'd be totally flattered if any of the three decided to move into one of my houses as this is my first attempt at birdhousing.
