iits been a slow migration for us. but i have managed to find some cool birds.

Awesome pics! Where are you located?

I updated a few years back from an A-1 to the EOS digital, but still haven't found the $$$ to buy a good tele lens.

Fall Migration Maps for Hummers Up

Okay - try this Google Journey North then look for the one that says Fall Migrationa and lists the dates on Fridays when the maps will be updated. For me it was the third site down. Click on it and it will bring up the home page. Click on the file maps at the top and that will take you to the page that has all the different Journey North maps. Look for either the Hummingbird map for all kinds of hummers or the one next to it for First Males. You will also see an option on the map at the bottom where you can go to sightings and describe what you have seen in your yard. Hope it helps. Evidently, people saw them out this morning after the storm. Hummers are tough little characters! Hope it works for you all. I am sorry for the misunderstanding on my part. Happy Humming.....

Steve, thanks for sharing the photos. I wanted to point out, in the second picture of your initial post, the difference between two of the hummingbirds. The hummingbird in the top left, caught in flight, has white tips on the three tail feathers on each side. If I understand what I researched earlier this season, this would indicate it is an adult female. In the same picture, the hummingbird on the far right, in flight, only has white on two and a half of it's tail feathers on each side. This would indicate it is a nestling from this year. Possibly someone with more experience than I, can confirm this coloration to confirm what I have read.

My friend and I are starting to see some come through our area in Central Florida. She has had a couple for the last couple of weeks, not sure if there are 2 or 3 or if the same ones continue to show up. I had my first of the season show up on Aug. 28th, a male and he stayed until the Sept. 1st. Then we saw one on the 5th - a female I think. Didn't see another until the 10th, now I have a female or could be a juvie and an adult male and possibly an immature male.

A very impressive collection Mark,

Congratulations on capturing so many new lifers, especially the hooded! Most of these are species we never see here, and the few of them that we have captured are seen only rarely in these parts.

rachel, actually its like one bird a day. thats about 21 days of hiking.

luc quebec, i was with one of the top birders in the usa. i even asked him that. and i dont remember what he said something like trailing edge feathers etc......i dont know how they do it.
