Hi all,

A lot of our regulars are moulting now and not too photogenic. But we love them all anyway of course and know they'll soon have their beautiful new winter coats. So anyway here are a few recent photos to share...

Late Summer "Good Rose" Lineup

Thanks, Kippy, it was interesting for me to see how this list compared to the one now. Sadly, Baptiste Lafay, Burbank, Souvenir de Germaine de St. Pierre, Souvenir d'un Ami, Rasberry Parfait, China Doll and Earth Song are all gone. On a brighter note, William R. Smith, White Meidiland, Young Lycidas, Belinda's Dream, Miss Atwood and Sophy's Rose are all improved, I'm happy to say. Souvenir du President Carnot has been moved to a new, less stressful location although I'm afraid that now it may not have enough sun. Potter and Moore is still pumping out blooms on a graceful bush that is easily kept within bounds. The Ingenious Mr. Fairchild is still gangly but blooms fairly well, with no disease whatsoever. Bishop's Castle, SdlM and Le Vesuve are all doing well and blooming, with no disease to speak of. The same goes for Rosette Delizy and Mutabilis. The rose I've fussed over the most, Annie Laurie McDonnell, has been in the ground for a few months and I was happy to spot a few buds which I'm going to allow to turn into flowers. It's still a very small rose but seems quite healthy, although I notice some of the newer leaves are quite a bit lighter. My biggest wish (and I imagine I'm not alone) is to have a very rainy fall and winter filled with rose blooms, but which will also revive the trees and shrubs that are so dried out. Ingrid

Wow! Dark Knight looks soooo velvety!! Love the green on St. Patrick. I had that at another place - never got the green. Stayed yellow - lack of heat here. Of course it died since I had it in the ground. I was a beginner. :) But for that year - it was phenomenal. Just went out to check my Night Owl (in a pot 3rd year). The flowers are definitely a dark purple. No pink, red or fushcia. So while St. Pat can't get the nice color for me here - Night Owl likes our cooler weather. I like your Pink Poodle - looks like a pink Grace. Love that pink!! thanks for sharing!! Carol

kinda late....my summer beach decor

I tried to take pix of the shelves in my curio, but most didn't turn due to flash, glass, lgt from bay window. Anyway, here's a couple. The little seahorses on the top are S&P shakers, the dolphin is purple marble that I found on eBay. Also found the purple starfish there last year, got a small bag of 8 of them. I saw a craft online thing to put shells in a little box frame, so did that idea. The stone shell plaque was a GW find and also the shell basket, the seagulls are from Dollar Tree, and the little painting was done by one of my young grandson's. It was a school project, and he gave it to me afterwards. One of the new Trail of Painted Pony figurines I added to my collection this year happened to be the Sea Horse. If you look close, you can see the waves on him lool like 'horse heads'. and last but not least, this metal trivet or wall hanging from eBay. I loved all the detail on it. 2 seahorses, a lobster, and different kinds of shells....and Luvs, you'll crack up at this....ACORNS. Even the seller in her description was baffled by the intent of that in the design. Too funny! hugs, Karen

Sharing our birds with others who enjoy them greatly adds to our own joy of them. :)

ginni77 - We are shooting with 4 different cameras now, and there are shots from each of them in this set. They are Canon S3-IS and Canon S5-IS (to both of which we usually attach Sony 1.7x teleconversion lenses) , a Canon SX30, and a Fuji S100fs. We shoot all of these cameras in Manual mode, using various settings of focal length, aperture, ISO, and shutter speed as needed to expose each individual shot or series. So we really can't recommend any specific settings which would likely give good results in all situations. We've found that operating our cameras manually usually allows us to make better decisions about the settings for any given shot than the cameras will normally make in any of their auto-exposure modes. Although I must admit the cameras' auto-decisions are certainly faster, and shooting manually does cause us to miss many shots. Anyway, I don't think there's really any easy answer to your question.

And btw, for any who don't know us here... I should explain that although I do all the posting in the forums, I don't take all these photos myself.
"We" are Kenn and Temple, and at least half of all the photos we post, both in the forums and in our Smugmug galleries, are ones she's taken. :)
