It's been awhile since our last post here, so I thot we could share a few recent photos...

I have to take lessons from you since I have the same camera and I am unable to take picture like that.

Konrad, Yeah, I wondered that too. You read about the old-time uses and then read the modern warnings on a lot of plants and it makes you wonder if more people died or got sicker from remedies in the old days than the ailments they were trying to cure. On the other hand, there's much good to say about herbal medicine, and most of the modern pills and such have so many warnings about side affects that I don't take anything. My sisters, on the other hand,literally pass around the advil bottle like they were handing out M&Ms. One took some because a bee stung her on the finger and she said it really hurt. but I'm getting off track. As for the bees, there are lots of plants that we can't touch or eat but produce perfectly fine honey such as poison ivy. I didn't see tansy listed with plants that produce toxic honey. Konrad, I'm looking foward to seeing you post some more of your great photos.

Love_The_Yard, You are correct in your assumptions. Disappointed would be a good word for my observations. I see all these posts celebrating accomplishment, yet no one reaches out to those wanting to learn. I keep my distance because this is the last 'free' and 'easy to join' forum that has a lot of potential. I have seen some experts stop by and teach me a great deal, but they likely have the same feelings. Here is a great opportunity to help others enjoy the same hobby, but they are shunned and likely go else where because they are ignored for a multitude of reasons. Should a member of this forum have a question that has been unanswered, they are free to email my account on file. I will do my best to get them pointed in the best direction. Ed

Ok, here are my newest "baby" pictures, these were planted on April 12, and just sprouted the 16th. Cherokee Chocolate was the first to come up, with an Aker's West Virginia in the back right cell and a Crnkovic Yugoslavian beginning to peep above the starting mix in the back left (it was planted the 13th, from 6 year old seeds, so it is a "go getter"). The one in the cell at the right edge of the picture is a Brandywine. The two in the back left cell of the tray in the back are Julia Childs. This little Julia Child seems to be a bit confused. These peppers were planted a week earlier but also sprouted yesterday. So far Aunt Ginny's Purple, Yellow Brandywine, Shuntukski Giant, and Olena Ukrainian have also sprouted out of the 40+ varieties I have planted. Still waiting for the other cells in the 6 packs to sprout. Now that I have more space in the flat that is on the heat mat, I'll be planting more tomatoes over the next few days and will do some cherry tomatoes last. I was wondering if I had started these too late, but they should all be about 6 weeks when we plant out around Memorial day. BTW, we had 3"+ of snow on Wednesday the 15th. Just a typical late spring last hurrah (I hope) for this area. Bets

Beautiful photos! It's so nice to see the detail up close. The fledgling Goldfinch is adorable and how nice to see the Kingbird. I've only seen 2 Monarchs in the gardens this year, it's been a terrible year for them in the Northeast and I miss them. Last year I raised and released 19, this year I didn't find any eggs. Hope you had lots of them.

Gorgeous photos as usual! Love the juvenile Cooper's Hawk, which apparently is tame also-or hoping to cash in on the yard bird bonanza.

We're very fortunate to have so many pretty songbirds here and we love to share them with other bird lovers. :)

Terrene - We usually get quite a few Monarchs and several other lovely butterflies here. Populations seem about normal to me this year, but the Painted Ladies have been kinda scarce so far.

Rachel - This juvie Cooper's (a female we think - it's BIG) has been hunting House Sparrows in the neighbor's azalea bush. We love to see and photograph the hawks (we have at least 4 species captured so far)... but we're in constant fear for our songbirds. Todate we've only seen them take Starlings and HOSP.
