Need Help with Identification

He hit my door of my house as he was chasing a bird.

He lay very still for about 5 min. I was about to turn him over with a gentle nudge of a long pole when he turned over and flew about 3 ft to my patio chair. He sat for another 10 min. and then flew up into a near by oak tree. He may have some injury to one of his feet, but all in all he looked pretty ok as he left.

It's a juvenile Sharp-shinned hawk.

Thought that it might be a Sharp-shinned.
He was back up in the tree close to my house hunting about an hour after he hit my door.

Tallest one (in your hand) is Crassula mesembryanthemoides; one next to it may be a hardy succulent/ground cover Sedum reflexum (Blue spruce sedum) - not 100% sure; one on very left below Crassula is Kalanchoe tubiflora (Bryophyllum tubiflorum); very bottom center, I think it may be another hardy groundcover Sedum rupestre 'Angelina' . The large center one and smaller to it's right - I am not sure. Looks like there are 2 more hiding (maybe 1 is an offspring of the big one?), but can't tell what they are from the photo. They all need fast draining potting mix, needs to be potted in container with drainage holes or ground - depends what your climate is (hardy sedums will overwinter in cold zones as low as z4 or even z3). And good sunlight. Kalanchoe tubiflora will self-propagate, every little plantlet you see on the leaves is potential plant - they just fall off and grow...in some places they are considered 'invasive'. When posting multiple plants for ID, it is easier to refer to plants if they are numbered. Could you add the general location and/or zone to your name?

Hi, It's a Haworthia, don't know which specific one. Leave it out to dry a couple of days, then give it a very small pot & fast draining mix like 50/50 Cactus & Succulent soil mixed w Perlite. Will make it fast draining, which is what it needs along w/ medium bright light, not direct sun. Don't water for a couple of days after potting. Don't know about the cat, others will.

Dave is correct in saying that there are so many registered daylilies (80,000+) that is hard to identify any given one especially from a picture. That being said, the one you have is Hemerocallis fulva 'Flore Pleno'. There is another that looks very similar called Kwanso. Both has been naturalized across the U. S. Whichever one it is, they are both agressive growers and will fill in an area. A word of caution, though, is to keep it by itself. It will spread into other plants nearby and crowd them out. It is good for erosion control on a slope or in a ditch. It is tough as nails and hard to get rid of. It is beautiful, though, so just keep it in check. Nancy

I would call this one a juvenile Cooper's Hawk. The head is to big and to flat on top for Sharpie

I hate to disagree with Elly, Hi Elly, but I think Juvie Coopers also.

I know there are so many details I miss, so I was wondering if someone could explain why this appears to be a juvenile Coopers rather than a Sharp-shinned. The tail looks square to me, and appears to have a thin white tip. Also, the legs look more like a Sharp-shinned to me. I'm sure I'm just missing something. But if an experienced birder could explain it would help me with future identifications.

For me Cooper Vs Shapie comes down to the size and shape of bird's head. Yes, there are other parameters like tail shape but it can be very deceiving because even a square tail could look round when its spread just right.
Cooper's head is much larger and very flat on top.

Sharp-shinned Hawk's head is smaller and it has a very distinctive forehead.
