Check out Nashville warbler.. we had a couple today at our blind/bird bath. One of our less common migrants.

I did a google search...Nashville Warbler looks pretty close. Thanks!!

Hi Bluebirdbabe,

What pretty pictures and what a sweet bird. You did a great job capturing the moment.

Can you tell me, is the waterfall part of a natural brook or one that you made that runs through your land?

I'm asking because I am contemplating putting in a small water feature in the spring. Looking at your pictures you can't help but see why birds would be attracted by your habitat with such a lovely water element. It certainly looks like a natural brook, but I had to ask, I hope you don't mind.

Chickadeemelrose, Here is a picture of my pond and stream. My DH built it 4 me. I get so many birds all summer and alot of migrants like the little bird in the pic. I still don't know what it is. Building a water feature is better than feeding the birds. I am glad u asked :) It comes with snakes too :( but I will deal with them so I can see all the beautiful birds that visit.

Hope this helps...build a water feature LOL Thanks 4 the nice words about my pic.
Karen

Karen, for your area I m saying Magnolia Warbler. Wish we could see the rump and tail. It is not impossible that you have a rare juvie Kirtland's, you are not that far from the Jack Pines. I think a bit to much yellow though. My vote Juvie Female Magnolia.
Chickaddemelrose.....DO IT definatly! My pond is similar to Karens, got slow, long waterfalls and it is bird central! Birds that wont come to feeders WILL come for a bath.

nope, not a magnolia...there weren't any black stripes. Belly was all yellow. I hope some1 lets me know what this little bird is...it's bugging me :)

Why is it not a Nashville Warbler?

-O-

orrin, did ya c the post I wrote???

"I did a google search...Nashville Warbler looks pretty close. Thanks!!"

I said "nope" to the magnolia warbler.

The gray looks like it goes down the neck. That and the white eye ring, I would guess maybe Connecticut Warbler?

That is a very cute little bird, whatever it is!

Birds that wont come to feeders WILL come for a bath.

Boy is this true. This summer I finally put a bird bath about 60 feet behind the house, in an open area near the back gardens. I have seen many unusual birds in the bath I had no idea were coming to the yard! These are not great pics - Point & shoot camera taken from window - and I ID'd some of the birds using binoculars.

There are 2 Bluebird fledglings, some sort of Warbler, and a Field Sparrow (I think) here -

I just LOVE bluebirds!! Great bird bath and photos!!

Karen

Karen my field guide has a juvi Magnolia no stripes what so ever. Ill try to scan and e mail

ok, thanks Lisa. I can not find my bird book. I think u may be right :)

That looks like a female Nashville Warbler, you lucky thing you..and what a wonderful water setup! I'm going to show it to DB! I have a real creek along one side of my front yard, overhung with thick brush, so the birds wouldn't have as much motivation to come to one next to the house.

Maybe after we move to Albuquerque..

Here's a 1st fall female Magnolia Warbler. Note wing bars, light lower mandible (beak), faint breast stripes on sides
