identify green bird?

I live in the foothills of the Sandia mountains in New Mexico. This morning a bright green bird appeared at our feeder. I snapped a couple of pictures using my phone, so the quality isn't great. The bird looks exactly like a budgie to me! Can someone tell me is there's a wild bird like this? If it is a budgie, what should I do? It let me get fairly close to take my pictures, all the wild birds flew off immediately I moved with my phone.

what works some times is put a pet carrier out close to the feeders and put some water and bird seed in it. with the door open tie a string or fishing line to the door and run it over the top thru the handle and up to your porch or window. test to pull on sting to make door pull shut. it is most likely some ones escaped pet and i doubt it would survive the cold of winter in your area Some newspapers offer a free ad for lost or found pets. and some pet shelters take birds and other pets. and a easy castch for a hawk or stray cat.

I live in NJ and we had green parrots living here through the coldest of winters for 9 years. They were pets that got away and were eventually recaptured. I donÃ¯Â¿Â½t know if your bird can deal with cold but there are definitely parrots that can. Keep feeding it and enjoy the view.

No problem. I just noticed spotted toehees about 2 months ago. My 4 year old likes "talking" to them. I had to find a site that had the sound they make to figure out what they were. This is actually a clear cut adult Cooper's Hawk. Dark "capped" appearance to head, and grayish cheek that does not occur on the similar Sharp-shinned. Also build of the bird is long and tubular.

The bird has come back to our feeder twice today, so it is staying in this area. DH says it is a parakeet. We're going to see if we can trap it. I'm afraid any trap we set up will attract dozens of doves, finches and sparrows. DH thinks they are too smart to be trapped, I'm not so sure. I'm concerned that it won't survive long, not with all the hawks, bobcats and dogs around.

Definitely a budgerigar-otherwise known in the US as a parakeet. Probably an escaped pet. It is quite possible that it may have adapted to life in the wild and is faring well considering the fact that it has found a reliable food source which is quite difficult for escaped birds. Most die within a few days.

Some birds do adapt however. Around the country there are colonies of quaker parrots and budgies that are doing quite well.
