These crisp mornings do feel great don't they? Just perfect now for camping and enjoying that roaring campfire! I really look forward to going several times in the next few months - even have a reservation for Thanksgiving, as usual.

It has been so hot and humid this year it's been impossible to enjoy camping or hiking and doing anything outside.

Fall is not normally my favorite time of year, but it is now!

We have Snow in the upper mountain regions. Heart of Trout country.

It has been really nice the past few weekends. The leaves seem to have taken their sweet time turning this year. Thou now the colors are really blooming.

Have plans for a few trips planned for fishing and camping. First being this coming weekend. When we'll head to the cabin in Greenbrier county to tuck it in for the winter. Should be able to toss a line on the C&R (catch and release) sections of Shavers Fork and Willams river.

Hippy - that creek looks a lot like North Carolina's Avery Creek where it joins up with the Davidson River, not too far from Brevard, NC. Anyway, wish I were there for the day, wetting a line and just enjoying these beautiful fall days!

Are you talking about Avery Creek off of I26 to Rt 280 into Avery? You go right through Avery and stay straight on Avery Crk Rd which is Rt 3486?
If so I have been their a few times. Loved the place.

Another good trip that we took while I lived in NC was to Wolf and Bear Lake.

We would take Rt64 through Brevard to Lake Toxaway. Then Rt 281. Where 281 and Rock Ridge Rd connected. We would have a ball catching small Native Trout in the small stream that ran along the road at times. At the Tail water where the stream ran into Wolf lake on Tannassee Crk Rd hit awhile then on to Ceder Valley Rd for more. We would spend our three day weekends Camping and fishing that area alot in the spring and fall.
Then head to Tuckasegee where Rt 281 and Rt 107 connected. Then on to Casheirs.
Then back toward Brevard and home.
We would have a blast catching Brook trout in most of the smaller lakes and ponds. We would only keep a maxium of Two each to eat in camp and Four if we were taking them home. Not many people know that Brook are a native to northern North America waters.

Hippy - the spot for Avery Creek that I'm referring to is where it ends, or empties into the Davidson River. Just to the east of Brevard, at the intersections of Hwys 64, 276 & 280 - just north of that intersection, taking Hwy 276, oh maybe a quarter of a mile, turn left into the Davidson River campground (this is a Pisgah Nat'l Forest C/G). You have to cross the Davidson and then turn to the right paralleling the river. The campground is all along the river and at the very end of the C/G (most northern point), is where Avery Creek empties into the Davidson River. This whole stretch of river (and the creek) is good trout fishing. Also, one of my "other" fishing holes is the "Tuck", so I know right where your talking about!

And your right on two things about them brookies; there are indeed good eating and they are the native trout for eastern North America; all other species of trout have been transplanted down through the years.
