What could be the temp in my garage unheated attic during winter? Around January, we get down to -35F but that's including windchill. Our record low last year without windchill was -22F. Also, I've seen water bottles in my garage freeze around late December and onwards. Do you think the attic in my garage would to cold for dahlias? About the cannas, what do you think about the temp they like when we overwinter them? I kept some canna rhizomes in my basement but around February, they dried up, shrunk, hardened and didn't make it. The other dahlia that you gave to me has color pink flower. The flower is huge. Diameter maybe 7-8". It is gorgeous!!! My dahlia flowers around August didn't look good because of the japanese beetles. However, I just see very few jbs. The dahlias are so beautiful! I have another one that you gave to me and the flower is like mixed red yellow. Thanks again! :D

I don't trust them. In the past I ordered two Primrose lilacs, they bloomed in about two years but the color was ordinary lilac. I hadn't kept the paperwork, decided to re-order from them as I had some other things from them which were correct. So I should see blooms this spring and my fingers are crossed and I did save the paperwork. In the meantime I don't order anything from them, hadn't seen Primrose lilac anyplace else or I could hve just shrugged them off and not re-ordered.

water- congrats on building an efficient home. its good to see results and suggestions taken by the pros that offer it up on this forum. Jen Tight homes need to have correctly sized hvac for it. There are very few mechanical guys that know how to size units for tight homes with very low air leakage. Most "rule of thumb" sizing does not work. The large units short cycle and do not run long enough to extract the humidity out of the air like you mentioned. Smaller units will have longer run times, correct, but they will run at a much lower speed so the energy usage is lower and the house maintains better. My home is an ICF home with similar r value (r 28 average and r60 attic with some r50 foamed rafters) and air tightness with triple pane windows only uses a 2 ton AC unit. The square footage is about 3800 total conditioned space. In zone 6 with 7200 HDD, the furnace is a Lennox modulating that ranges from 22k btu to 70k. It runs around the 25k for most of the time in the winter at 0 and below. Rarely does it ramp up to full speed ever. The mechanical was carefully designed and selected, and there is also an HRV installed. The full mechanical, high end equipment and HRV only cost $12k for the home nearly 4k sqft. I have seen people post numbers on here that are over double that in dollars and sizing for the same square footage. This is due to some or all of: code min. home design and construction and/or oversized hvac. Now, its great the spray foam is performing, but without starting the debate, I just want to be clear to any readers that they are other methods of achieving a tight home, high r, and the same results as the poster WITHOUT using spray foam, all at a reduced cost of spray foam. And as always, put the money into the shell of the home, not the hvac! Increase the shell, decrease the hvac. Most cases, dollars are a wash or less and energy usage is lower for the life of the home!

I WILL NEVER BUY ANYTHING FROM CALICO CORNERS. Two months ago, I walked into Calico Corners for the first time. I went to the store in Greenbrae, California. I was the only customer in the store at the time. By my count there were at least 4 employees in the store. One employee was actually training another employee, from what I could tell. The store was not very big, so it was no secret that a customer had walked into the store. I walked around the entire store several times. I stopped repeatedly to look at fabrics, trims, etc. I was there for over half an hour. I was never acknowledged by a single employee at that store. Nobody said "hello" let alone "may I help you" or "do you have any questions." Instead, I had the pleasure of listening to two employees standing in the cash register area arguing about whether or not to charge a customer about fabric. I do mean ARGUING. Not discussing. ARGUING. In the middle of the store. In plain sight of anyone in the store. When one of the employees had enough of the argument and huffed away, she walked right past me and didn't even look at me. The other employee then proceeded to recount the argument to a third employee and complain in length about the first employee. Now, I've worked in retail for much of my career, from working in stores during college to working in the corporate headquarters for a major retailer. The calibre of these employees was no better than what I have experienced from teenagers at discount retailers. I certainly expected more from MIDDLE AGED WOMEN in what is supposed to be a REPUTABLE source for interior decorating. Needless to say, I was completely disgusted. I stood by the front door, called my husband and said, in a voice loud enough to be heard to the back of the store, "We will not spend a penny at Calico Corners because they cannot be bothered to acknowledge a customer, as they are too busy arguing amongst themselves." I promptly walked out. I tried to submit this feedback via the Calico Corners website, but I kept getting an error message. Apparently they don't want the feedback. So, please share with their leadership that they missed out on a sale of several thousand dollars. I was planning on buying a sofa, chair and ottoman, as well as having curtains and a window seat made. I have also made it my mission to deter all my friends from shopping there. Thanks!
