I wish I'd seen this thread before posting mine! Yes, you can use a pressure cooker on the propane stove. I had a pressure cooker in my RV (and plan to put it in the camping equipment for this summer's trip). I have also used it on the white-gas stove (older Coleman model), when we were renovating the kitchen at home. We looked at those 12-volt refrigerators. My husband was annoyed that he got rid of his after leaving the trucking industry. Well, how could we know! Thanks for the tips on the newer ones. As far as camping reservations go: from experience, the national park campgrounds fill fast. Many of them are on the reservation system, and others (like in Arches) will require you to start trolling through the CG at daybreak, looking for departing campers. Our trip is about the same length as yours, though we are staying in motels and with friends and family instead of tent-camping. From experience with long trip tent camping, though, you'll want to get a motel room or find a truck stop with reasonably priced showers (bring shower shoes) every 3-4 days. Your trip sounds like a lot of fun -- we're heading from CA to ME via Orlando, FL, and back through MO (daughter, son-IL and new granddaughter live there). So we're going opposite of you, grin. I think some folk here might be overreacting. I don't know the situation but it sounds to me like you're close friends with this person and she feels close enough to you to make suggestions. I don't see that as being all bad. Does she know how important this is to you the way it's planned? When I invite people, I usually am open to suggestions. However if I am set on how I want to do it then I just say that's how I want to do it. Kind of like when we'd go out to get pizza in a group and one wanted a certain topping on everything, while others didn't want it on there. I just started ordering our own and not put it in the "buffet" and just told others to order what they want. Same thing here. I highly doubt you'd lose a friend over this if you're forthright and I don't think you have to "put your foot down". If you're open and forthright with your friend, if the friendship does break up it doesn't matter that much since if it wouldn't have broken up over this, it'd break up over something equally petty. Suggest you get together somewhere on the trip and go from there. And have a good time.

Welcome to Garden Web and This Home Site. I see you just joined yesterday. Do you have a computer in your RV? If so, how wonderful...all the comforts of home while traveling. I guess you have some sort of a wireless service that you are able to use it when RVing around to different places. Tell us about that...is it expensive? Is it dependable?...or might you have to use the library when traveling to look up the thrift shops on your site? I find the yellow pages of any phone book lists all of the thrift shops in an area just great, and like to frequent those that are raising funds especially for the needy. Have you ever been to the Highway 50 yardsale? I forget how many hundred miles long it is. I've heard it almost runs coast to coast, and is touted as the world's biggest yard sale. There is another one that starts in Kentucky and runs clear down to the gulf coast. Anyone ever been to either of those? I have some friends that live out of their RV. In the summer they are the Host and Hostess at the local State Park. By helping out by keeping an eye out for any campers disobeying the rules, and helping out in different ways, they are given free camping for their whole stay. When the weather turns cold here in Indiana, and camping slows, they roll on down south, and are host and hostess again in a southern campground for the winter months. Sounds like a fun life to me, but think I would always want to have a 'fixed' place of my own to call home to come back to. Sue

I study all maps I have along for camping spots listed (usually AAA map, state map I pick up when I ride in, and lately google search). I look in a 40 to 65 mile distance from where I spend the night. Sometimes I also go in to libraries and use their road atlas (way lighter than hauling one). Yes, Raven, state parks are GREAT, but some don't have showers... or bodies of water (stream, lake, river) that one could use to rinse off road grime and sweat.... Plan B is take a cheap motel. ;) edit/adding there is an organization called Warm Showers, which is run on a volunteer basis for cyclists by cyclists that might have a member located where I need one. I am on this list, which then entitles me to stay at another members house, and use the hospitality they offer. Always a warm shower, sometimes just a spot in the back yard to pitch ones tent, often a spare room (the latter is what I offer) and often a meal cooked, or the option to use their kitchen to cook.
