Thanks for the info site, Muffin - very interesting, and I did'nt know there had been a replacement in the works for DEET.

Going to pack-up and head for the mountains for a week; a good chance, maybe, to put these little towelette's to the acid test!

let me know, dale! I get ravaged by the mule flies in rivers out west! They land on my calves and really bite hard! Mama Mia !! I'm curious how you like them.
Especially how long they last. Do you have to keep wiping every hour? or did they last? Let us know about your trip. Good luck!

Picaridin has been around for a few years. At least seven that I know of.

It was developed by Bayer. And will soon be available for sale in the US bug repellants with/under the name Bayrepel.

I tried some by the brand name Autan Active that a friend brought home from Austriala last summer. It beats Deet by a mile. I cant wait until it become widely avaiable here.
The friend have a small pump and spray bottle and a "tube" that was much like an Old Spice deoderant tube or whatever. I have never heard what they call those oval underarm deoderant holders. lol

Keep and eye out for any bug repellant that contains Picaridin. For it will put Deet suppliers out of business quick.

I'll be interested to hear the reviews on this product, too. We're planning a trip to Minnesota this summer.

I believe the oval underarm deoderant holders are called roll on!

rustipup - instructions say to re-apply in three to four hours and not to apply over three times a day.

I'm packin'up the popup and plan to hit the road Sunday morning and be gone for a week. Will let everyone know what this new stuff will do.

If you don't mind spending a little extra for clothes, which most people need anyway. LLBean has some called Buzz Off. They have some kind of bug repellant made from mums(I can't spell the real name of the flower). I have purchased some long sleev tees, socks and jeans. I can sit outside by my pond and not hit at a mosquito while everyone else is raising whelts from swatting.
I have no interest what so ever with llbean.

Just returned from my planned fishing trip to the mountains of North Carolina. Set-up my little popup camper right next to Kimsey Creek, which then which in a very short distance, empties into the Nantahala River. From my camp site you could almost step out of the camper into the creek - maybe the diatance was 15 feet - great sleeping sounds, this mountain creek tumbling through the rocks right next to you! And the weather was perfect! Warm days and cool nights (the kind you have to seep under the covers or in your sleeping bag). One rainy night that lasted into the next day until about noon - and I got out in the rain the next morning and did some serious trout fishing in the Nantahala River. There were serveral of us in our party, counting myself, a total of eight (I had the best camp site!). Great fellowship and we fished the "Nan" real serious, up-river and down-river from the camp; and we enjoyed a big fish fry one night, right next to the camp fire.

Put the Cutter (Picaridin) wipes to the test; in fact, shared what I had with others in the group, and the product did a great job keeping off the mosquitos and the day-time little gnat flys that like to gather around your head and get into your eyes if given the chance. The product was very pleasant to use and was very effective for what we encountered.

Boy, had a great time this trip ... would have liked to have stayed another week but have company coming for the 4th and had to get home (get the house ready ... ya know?)

Just used some this past weekend. I like the way it applies. Doesn't feel greasy and won't concentrate in one spot like salves do. evenly applied. Really neat and fits into console, glove box, or backpack. I wonder if you wiped a picnic table down before guests ate at a campsite, if it would deter the bugs from landing on the food? It would dry up in an instant, too.

A little off the subject question about insects, I just wanted to throw out. Does anyone know why flying type insects can be completely maddening one day and then be completely gone the next? I was at one of my favorite spots last week and almost left because of bugs. We decided to stay one more day. The next day no bugs. The weather stayed the same. I noticed this with deer flies and meat bees mostly. Any ideas, I'm puzzled!

I think the weather can affect how much the bugs mill around. It seems we always get tons of flies the day before a rain storm. The next day they are gone.

I think it is new to Avon this year. Skin So Soft Bug Guard Plus. Seems to work well and smells good too.

We used the Cutters Advanced - Picaridin - with the pump bottle and found it worked very well in Canada for the black & deer flies during the day.

Did not try at night, as we get off the lake before the swarms of skeeters comes - nothing stops them.

Harold, good to know about the Cutter Advaced & the Canadian black flies ... boy, they can be real nasty!

As I've posted earlier, had the chance to try out the Cutter Advanced towlettes and they worked just great for mosquitoes and day gnats that we get in the western North Carolina mountains. Just as soon as I use up the spray bottle of the Sawyer brand of time release DEET, I'm going to try the Cutter spray you have; I like this Picaridin.
