I have a Whirlpool Fridge (model: ED22QFXHW00) with an UltraEase Plus Water Filtration System. Fridge is 10+ yrs old. Recently, the water dispenser has been functioning inconsistently. There does not seem to be a rhyme or reason for it. Sometimes it works, sometimes it does not. I've replaced the filter, but the problem persists. I've checked the hose from wall to fridge, it seems clear. The ice maker makes ice correctly, so I'm assuming the water is flowing within the fridge correctly. Any thoughts from the forum about why the water would not be flowing / dispensing?

We bought the Moen filtration/water dispenser -- it matches well with our Moen Anabelle faucet. Have had it for about a month -- I love it! There is plenty of water flow - uses one filter. It is a separate unit from the faucet, just has a supply line from the undersink water supply. The main faucet uses regular, non-filtered water for general washing, cleanup etc. There are many other options on the Faucet Direct website -- but you have to do several different searches to see all of them because they have a funny way of categorizing. What needs to be treated in the water? Without seeing your water analysis, you won't get meaningful answers here. If you choose to list the problem aspects of the water do note if it's municipal or well water and where you live. A whole house system is generally installed to treat systemic issues like pH, hardness, high iron, etc. These would usually have media filled tanks that automatically regenerate and are serviced annually (maybe more often) to replace minerals and examine components. Under sink systems are usually for just drinking water. RO wastes a LOT of water for each gallon produced and is not done 'whole house'. If your incoming water is pretty bad and you don't have significant pre-filtration, your RO membrane will be really taxed. I have the iSpring PH100 RO system which claims the lowest waste water without using a permeate pump. It was a DIY. Filters are reasonably priced and it has a remineralization filter for taste. Also have a whole house neutralizer to address low pH.

There are two issues - and they are separate and can't be handled by the same device. -You need an ion exchange water softener to remove hardness -You would like a carbon filter to remove PFAS and chlorine - (and a bunch of junk, including improving taste and smell) . There is no lead in the water report at the source. Both of these are pretty established technologies - there's no special sauce, really. You can get a whole house carbon filter. Or you can filter just your drinking water. Decent hardware to do this is available for about $1,500 for the pair - give or take -based on sizing. So, I'm having a very hard time getting to $4,800 installed.
