Do crossed seeds look any different?

I heard in the pepper forum that if your peppers cross that you can taste the effects in the first generation (ie you don't have to save seed and grow them out the next year to taste the effects of crossing because the seeds have changed even if the fruit looks otherwise unchanged). So since the seeds have different genetic material in them, could you tell a crossed tomato if you were familiar with their seeds? Hillbilly PL has very small seeds, much smaller than everything else in my garden. I was wondering if I might be able to tell if one had crossed with a LRC I had planted next to it if I noticed the seeds look different.

Thanks,

Scott
